http://www.cosanostranews.com/2016/10/did-new-york-families-plot-murders-of.html

The guy most of this information comes from is a convicted pedophile, so take it with a grain of salt...

"And the plotting had grown beyond the talking phase, too. He testified that he and others in on the plotting had begun to seek out good places to bury the three bodies of Ligambi, Borgesi and Mazzone. Several landfills and construction sites were under consideration. The plan was to first lure the high-ranking trio to a meeting to occur in North Jersey."

But more fascinating is this tidbit from the end:

Big Mystery Remains
One of Caprio's allies allegedly in on the deal to whack Ligambi and the administration is still alive today. When last written about, he was still a South Philadelphia-based steakhouse-owner and high-level bookmaker.

Danny D'Ambrosio had been allied with "Pete the Crumb" Caprio.

The question asked at Ligambi's trial was, how could the associate have gotten away with his life for plotting the murder of Ligambi and the others.

At the trial, Jack Garcia noted that he was stumped as to why D'Ambrosio wasn't dead. "He must have gotten a pass," the former FBI agent noted, adding: "I don't have inside information as to why (he) has a pass, but he does."

That is a true story happened in 1999 Geogre A talks about it in Prevites book last gangster.

It was Caprio who was plotting to kill ligambi and those guys he got permission from gambinos and Genovese. It was caught on tape I think casalse was wearing a wire and then when Caprio flipped he gave up the whole thing he spoke about it in the 2001 trial against merlino.

Also capiro who this info comes from is NOT a peodophile your getting mixed up with Casale an associate who worked for Caprio he was a convicted peodophile. He killed Joe Sodano. He was never used in court he lied about two murders and no jury is going believe a scumbag like him

How on earth would Caprio figure he could suddenly start walking around SP as boss, though? I know Ralph Natale spent most of his time in Pennsauken, but he had Merlino to run the street. Who was going to oversee the city on Caprio's behalf? I guess its a case of greed and power being powerful blinders.

I think there's a scene in The Last Gangster where Previte says a friend of his told him that a gangster notorious for being unkempt and having food on him was seen staking out his hangouts...that would be Caprio, I assume, "the Crumb."

Also, anyone know why Danny D'Ambrosio got a pass? There's some George A articles that mention he was called in by Unk, but no story as to how he got away with it either than some suggestion he was stringing Natale along so Natale wouldn't rat on him too...

Scarfo ran the family from AC it was possible for Caprio rememeber after merlino and his guys were taken down there was no one really left on the streets Ligambi a low level soldier ending up as acting boss shows how weak the mob was at that time. If he could have found someone to run the day to day in SP it was possible. Then again Merlino had loyalists on the streets who might have fought back if he killed ligambi we will never know what would have happened

He was a earner maybe he was able to convince them it was in there interest to keep him alive or maybe he had friends in New York who got him a pass

Danny D'Ambrosia has had the largest book in South Philly since the mid 90s. One of the prominent books that Joey would never pay back when he lost.

He's not made and probably by his own choice but he's the closest thing in present South Philly to Frankie Flowers was in the 80s. Not sure that I buy into that he was part of the takeover unless the money he was kicking back to Ligambi was extraordinary.

Gambler gets 30 months as racketeer
By KITTY CAPARELLA
caparek@phillynews.com

Daniel D'Ambrosia, a major South Philadelphia gambling figure and onetime confidant to ex-mob boss Ralph Natale, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for running an international sports betting operation here, in Newark, N.J., and in Costa Rica.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Kaplan said D'Ambrosia, 37, was the first of nine co-defendants to be sentenced in a federal racketeering case before U.S. District Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise on Wednesday in Newark.

He was fined $6,000 and ordered to surrender to federal prison on Aug. 5.

D'Ambrosia, who is under house arrest at his parents' home in South Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to aid to racketeering, which included loan-sharking and operating an illegal gambling operation.

Yesterday, co-defendant Eugene Wilson pleaded guilty to gambling and conducting an illegal gambling operation. He'll be sentenced Oct. 28.

D'Ambrosia and Wilson are among four co-defendants to plead guilty. Five others, including jailed mob boss Joseph "Skinny Joey" Merlino, are awaiting trial.

D'Ambrosia, who took in hundreds of thousands of dollars in sports gambling receipts, acted as a go-between for Natale, even after Natale was in federal custody.

Natale testified he assigned D'Ambrosia to work with Peter "Pete the Crumb" Caprio to help the aging mobster make money in Newark.

After Natale was jailed in 1998 for parole violation, Natale testified that D'Ambrosia helped to financially support his family. Recently, mob turncoat Roger Vella told authorities D'Ambrosia paid his legal bills.

Caprio testified that he and D'Ambrosia, among others, planned to kill then-acting mob boss Joseph Ligambi, underboss Steve Mazzone and consigliere George Borgesi in 1999 in a plot to take over the mob.

Since then, law enforcement sources said, Ligambi allegedly took over a portion of D'Ambrosia's gambling operation. The late mobster Raymond "Long John" Martorano talked of going into the gambling business with him a year before Martorano was killed in January, sources said.

A March 1986 raid on DiBernardo's office seized alleged "child pornography and financial records." As "a result of the Postal Inspectors seizures [a federal prosecutor] is attempting to indict DiBernardo on child pornography violations" according to an FBI memo dated May 20, 1986.
