Mafia to face Italian army as crime clans send murder rate soaring in Naples drug war

Italy is making plans to send in the army after a series of murders as part of a brutal mafia war in Naples, a senior minister has announced.

A deadly turf war is raging between rival Camorra clans for control of extortion and drug markets with nine victims killed since the beginning of the year.

After three murders in just 24 hours, Italy's Interior Minister Angelino Alfano told Sky News Italy: "Now in Naples we need to send in the army.

"We have a division prepared as part of our Safer Streets Operation. Now we have to adapt the regulations so we can deploy more soldiers onto the streets."

National anti-mafia prosecutor Franco Roberti said that the situation in Naples was "unrivalled in Europe".

He said: "It's exceptional in terms of breakdown in public order, it's unrivalled in Europe, worse than in the Parisian banlieues."

He told La Repubblica: "It's an exceptional situation, and I am convinced that exceptional measures are needed.

" Arrests have left voids in criminal power, making space for teenagers and under 18s who are fighting for control of the territory and the drug market."

He added: "They have masses of arms at their disposal and they are ready to kill for nothing. I don't think that at national or European level there are parallels."

Roberto Saviano, author of the bestseller Gomorrah about the Neapolitan mafia, told the newspaper: "Here normal government is a daily war linked to drugs fought by combatants who are not even of age and supported by the tradition of omerta.

"We must stop treating Naples like a normal city. It's not one. Neapolitans are forced to keep their heads down because they are living under gunfire."

Francesco Esposito, 33, a convicted drug dealer, was shot in the chest on his doorstep on Friday in a suspected hit by a rival gang.

A 24-year-old and a 21-year-old with suspected links to organised crime were shot in different locations on Thursday night.

The Italian army?
They fight worse than the frogs.

They put their clothes on backwards and run away just to confuse the enemy.

MORGAN: Why didn't you fight him at the park if you wanted to? I'm not goin' now, I'm eatin' my snack.
CHUCKIE: Morgan, Let's go.
MORGAN: I'm serious Chuckie, I ain't goin'.
WILL: So don't go.

Hey the army has guns. Good news is even the army can be bought.

When I was a kid a friend of my uncle told a story about a prison in Scicly. Well it was more like a wide open town where they sent convicted Mafia guys. They called it the bandit town.

These guys could do anything they want there except leave. The army made sure you did not leave alive.

But inside it was a wide open town.

My uncles friend father died in that town. He had an argument and someone snd he shot him in the head. They would let relatives in to take care of the bones of the dead. If not they would dump them. I saw a picture of my uncles friend cleaning the bones of his father.

I would love to know more of the towns history, but back then I did not pay much attention. Now everyone that heard that story is dead except me.

What the fuck are you saying ? The italian army is between the 5 most powerful armies. Do you refer to the italian army during the WWII,4 word for this:good soldiers, worst generals.
Is useless to seno army to Naples. Do you ever seen the Iron Prefect ? In this movie there are the Gangi siege in 1925,for me this is role of that the army must play in Naples, go home by home and captare all the camorristi.

I have a friend who keeps the history of my old club the Brooklyn Italians. He was also my adult teams masseur.

He came to the US right after WW 2 with his wife. There both still alive. Very nice people but never learned to speak English. There are enough people who just spoke Italian to them so they never bothered to learn English.

Just shooting the breeze with him one day. The conversation got to his WW2 experiences. He was a machine gunner in the war.

He told me he must have killed 150 enemy soldiers in one battle at tobruck.

Then I realized he was our enemy back then. He fought for Mussilini and the 150 enemy he killed was English soldiers.

My uncle was a carabiniere and Mussolini's aid de camp he said me that when san Lorenzo neighborhood in Rome was bombardated he saw Mussolini cry. But my uncle after the 1943 stay with the 5th Army but only because he know that the Axe will lost the war although he would do with Mussolini in north italy to kill the partisans. There are the cases of life.

Relax Furio. Just a little WW2 humour for you.

But technically it wasn't the generals. It was the troops. Check out Mussolini's adventures in North Africa as one of many examples of Italian army's abysmal failures.

Not that that's a bad thing. They were fighting for a facist state after all.

This is bullshit, the third reich was a fascist state too,but they had Speer,Von Maistein,Model ecc all officers and generals who modernized the army and the air force while in Italy all the senior officers they were firm to the Great War. Italy went with no heavy tank, a few medium tanks and many light tanks said boxes of sardines.
The army had no radar, the Navy no aircraft carriers because Mussolini was saying that the Italy was a natural airplane carrier, the grenades did not explode many times; in all that Italians have fought with honor even Rommel hated Italians had said after el alamein "Italians have done more than should and could have done with their little armaments"

Lacked the luck, not the value

This is the tanks, with Italy went to war, we had 2000 of this

However, I am angry because I remember my grandfather telling me how with frozen feet managed to save before returning to Italy, being captured by the Germans, directed at Fossoli and then to the concentration camp and then fled into the compartment spare wheel of a German machine.

I was going to respond regards the Italian army's performance in WW2 but chose not to as it serves no purpose for the function of this thread.

Please understand I meant no disrespect to your grandfather.

250 soldiers deployed to Naples

Rome, February 15 - The deployment of 250 soldiers in Naples is the "rapid response" by the State to a recent upsurge in Camorra mafia-related violence, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Monday. "These back-up units will be a more forceful representation of the defence of legality that we intend to set against the episodes of violence and upsurge in criminality and internal feuds that characterise criminal action right now, by boosting local security and strengthening citizens' confidence in the institutions," Alfano said. The deployment is just one pillar of a complex plan that also includes better communication between investigative units, more investigators, more video surveillance and greater efficiency in emergency call out services.
