In reading about the mob, I've run across this name a few times; A Genovese favorite apparently, a big earner, pretty vile guy from what I've read. Liked underage girls, lotta guys despised him. Came across this article, I feel like someone probably posted this somewhere already but... https://books.google.com/books?id=r1IEAA...ese&f=false It had a small mention of Granello, apparently Tommy Eboli okayed his sons death, and Granello openly vowed vengeance, who the hell was this guy? Buit had a few other interesting things in it; For one, the article states Carlo Gambino had the same monthly dues tax on his family as Joe Profaci. I found that pretty interesting, considering he backed the Gallos, and the that the Gallos rebelled because Profaci mainly taxed them too much. Another is that this article is from 1969, and in it they peg Phillip Lombardo as the likely man to take over, like back then. This is Time magazine, something you bought off a newsstand. I was always under the impression that Lombardo was like a total shadowy figure, cause it went, like, Eboli, then Tieri, then Chin. So, Lombardo was calling the shots During Ebolis stint as acting boss? Due in large part to the inertia of Miranda and Catena, and age of DeCarlo, Boiardo, DeFeo and other old timers? Was Eboli, unwittingly, a front for Lombardo? You smart guys help me out here.... Another is that they pegged Anthony Carillo as a Boss candidate. This is a guy who was the LaStella Commision meeting, lowest ranking guy there, but at the table nonetheless. In the article they had him imprisioned in Italy on a Narcotics case, this piqued my interest... Anyone got any info? I laughed out loud when they said the genovese called Charles Gagliodotto their " fag hit man" , lol I thought the articles estimate of Jerry Catenas worth of ten million to be a bit low, to say the least.... And finally, fully sidetracked, looking into this Anthony Carillo, I came upon this article with an interesting theory on why LaStella happened in the first place, supposedly it was Colombos idea.... http://gangstersinc.ning.com/profiles/blogs/the-star-of-forrest-hills As ah well, any thoughts, especially on this Granello character...

Cabrini thanks for the post buddy that article is fascinating and a good read appreciate the share and if u found more old articles bout Granello and the Genovese at this time please share pal...I enjoy reading the most bout that time period 60s-70s bc lotta major changes and interesting stuff to me at least I was suprised as you were that they mentioned Benny Squint as a possible boss in 69 when in actuality according to what ive read thats when he took over boss..I too thought no one in the media or LE had really any idea that he was that powerful and was or would be boss..although despite the article he succesfully ran that fam for what 15 years without goin to the can When he took over as official boss was that when Eboli became official front boss or did the Genovese still have Eboli, Catena, and Miranda as the front ruling panel? I was under the the impression that Eboli was acting then and up until he got whacked?? Also I wonder why Lombardo signed off on him getting clipped by Gambino? Seemed to me he was an efffective front boss at the time, def had respect and I know the reason Carlo wanted his head was b/c of the huge drug debt he owed but why wouldnt Lombardo reprimand him and make him pay the money back I mean ostensibly with him gone I assume the Gambinos never got their money back? Can anyone shed some light on this? Dont mean to sidetrack your thread pal, but this always confused me.

It confused me too, every since I saw that Merry Ferrell, is that it? The FBI document where Eboli is complaining about Gambino and Luchesse. This Time article and Ebolis own words make it seem like Catena, and Miranda were too old, rich and aloof to care about tending to the business of " Cosa Nostra", of maintaining their power within the sphere of the Mafia, as a political body, if you will. Their concern as always was actual business, criminal business, but increasingly legit stuff, Corporate stuff, which in the mold of Godfather 3 is like, " crooked but better". But I wonder if Catena and Miranda weren't just staying aloof from Eboli, and were actually in league with Luchesse, and by extension Gambino too. Lombardo would have been the young guy on the street for the two Mega-weights? What surprised me is this Anthony Carillo, and his narcotics connects in Italy, and his being mentioned as a boss candidate. Was he like, one of the few guys to escape conviction in Vito's heroin operation? Also I'm always intrigued by any mention of Anthony " Tony Bender" Strollo. Another guy whose role I'm always confused by. I suspect he was Vito's man in New York during his exile in Italy? In this article it has him murdered for narcotics, bringing heat on Vito. Don't feel bad for the side track lol, I almost made five threads just outta looking into one topic ol

Granello was a sick son of a bitch , he was lucky he was close to genovese otherwise he would probably have got chopped up , wasn't he a childl rapist or some shit ?? Teenaged girls I think, I was trying to find out what racket he was into that got him such a monumental pass, ended up coming across a couple of interesting articles instead... Yeah, a real Man of Honor. Right up there with DeMeo and his child porn. If that doesn't convince everybody that the Mob doesn't give a fuck about anyone as long as the money gets kicked up, nothing ever will.
