PETE PEREZ, TH—Central Region “Inca,” or leader, of the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation (Latin Kings), and 60 of his fellow members and associates are in custody facing federal and/or state charges for their roles in a racketeering and drug distribution scheme in the Austin, San Antonio and Uvalde areas.

As a result of this investigation, federal grand juries sitting in Del Rio and San Antonio have indicted 37 individuals. A state grand jury sitting in Uvalde County has indicted 28 individuals. Of those charged, 46 were arrested yesterday, 15 were arrested prior to yesterday, and four individuals remain fugitives.

That announcement was made today by United States Attorney Richard L. Durbin, Jr.; Uvalde County/38th Judicial District Attorney Daniel J. Kindred; Acting Special Agent in Charge Mark Dawson, Homeland Security Investigations in San Antonio; Christopher Combs, Federal Bureau of Investigation in San Antonio; Special Agent in Charge Joseph M. Arabit, Drug Enforcement Administration in Houston; Director Steven McCraw, Texas Department of Public Safety; and, Uvalde Police Chief Eric Herrera.

According to the federal grand jury indictments, the defendants have operated a criminal enterprise in Central Texas since 2005. Under the leadership of Texas-Central Region “Inca” Pete Perez in Austin, San Antonio Chapter “Inca” Joe Pierce and Uvalde Chapter “Incas” James Long and Jacob Mariscal, they have conspired to carry out unlawful acts including attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, extortion, robbery, various firearms offenses and drug distribution involving marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine. The Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organization (RICO) indictment alleges that ten attempted murders, approximately ten assaults and various other acts of violence were committed as a result of a prospect initiation, leaking of sensitive information to a non-Latin King member, breaking an organizational rule, retaliation against rival gang members, and for unpaid drug distribution debts

Foot,

lot of LKs in Elizabeth,NJ.
We didn't know it at the time, but we used to go watch ppv fights in areas that were LK turf. Years later I recalled that everybody was wearing Black and Yellow. This was before the presence of the west coast gangs was as visible in NJ.

I associate LKs with Puerto Ricans, so didn't expect them in areas where the Latinos are Central Americans.

Not many PR's in Texas as far as I know, but many gangs will cross ethnic lines now. I bet 80% of MS-13 are not Salvadorans these days.

Mulberry,

that's an interesting point.

One of it not THE most infamous MS-13 incident happened years ago in Ivy Hill section of Newark,NJ.

was a national story

They killed some college kids who were home on summer break.

One of the MS-13 guys who were convicted was Black. First I thought he might have been a Black from Salvador but he was straight up African American.

Gets,

Remember that LKs open to everybody regardless of ethnicity and I was surprised to see them here in the Sip (mostly white).

BF,

I didn't know that LKs recruit non Latinos. Out here it's strictly a PR organization...and since PR isn't a race...whenever I saw visibly Black or visibly White LKs...I just assumed that they were of PR heritage.
Guy who brought LK to this area was Cuban, but I've always thought of LK as a predominantly Puerto Rican gang. I'm sure in the prison system the ranks are closed along heritage lines.

Gets,

It goes back to their foundation of both PR & Mexican members. In Chicago , PR LKs are mostly on the north/west side then it becomes more Mexican as you head towards the South/west side areas from I seen in pics/documentaries. In the late 70s/early 80s all the Chi orgs became open to all ethnicities/nationalities and its based on neighborhood locale now. Meaning if you lived in LK, MLD (Maniac Latin Disciples), Spanish Cobras, or Satin Disciples block/hood then you can join regardless of your Haitian ancestry. It's more diverse on the northside and surburbs.

LK arrested for 2005 slaying of college student (3 weeks before he was about to graduate)

http://nypost.com/2017/02/06/gang-member-indicted-for-murder-of-basketball-star/

A Latin King gangbanger who comes from an NYPD family has been arrested in the long-unsolved 2005 murder of college basketball star Tafare Berryman on Long Island, officials announced Monday.

Alleged killer Jaime Rivera, 32, of the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation street gangs was charged in a two-count indictment unsealed Monday in federal court on Long Island, officials said.
Rivera, a Freeport, LI, resident, comes from a family of law enforcement, sources said.

His mother is a retired member of the NYPD, his step-father an active member of the department and his brother an active member of the Freeport Police Department, according to sources.

“Gang violence has taken the lives of too many innocent young people with bright futures,” said Eastern District US Attorney Robert Capers said in a statement announcing Rivera’s arrest, which was made in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the FBI.

“This case should serve as a message to all gang members, if you engage in violent gang activity, our law enforcement partners will not stop pursuing you until you are held accountable for your actions.”

Berryman, a popular 22-year-old hoopster at CW Post College, was shot dead in the early morning hours of April 3, 2005, near a nightclub in Island Park.

Police have long believed that Berryman was shot in a case of mistaken identity after he and a friend drove away from the scene of a fight in the parking lot nearby the club.

Before the slaying, Rivera and other Latin King gang members were present at the La Mansion bar and nightclub where Berryman and some of his pals were partying, according to the indictment.

An incident occurred inside of the Long Beach Road club between some gang members and one of the CW Post College students, which then spilled out into a parking lot across the street from the club.
At about 5 a.m., Berryman and a friend exited the club to the chaotic fighting happening in the parking lot.

As the two walked to their car, Berryman’s friend was whacked in the head with a bottle before the pair got into a car and drove off.

Several blocks from the club, Berryman’s pal, who was driving, pulled over to tend to his bleeding wound when suddenly Rivera pulled up alongside the car and shot Berryman once, killing him, because Rivera mistakenly believed that Berryman and his friend were involved in the prior parking lot fight and were a threat to the Latin Kings, prosecutors charge.

Rivera is expected to the arraigned Monday afternoon before US Magistrate Judge Steven Locke.

Latin Kings are not big in Texas. They are a small fringe gang at best.

The LKs are not small in Texas. They may be small in comparison to other groups but by themselves at or over 1,000. A thousand isn't a small number.
