ANGOLA - Corrections officials said drug cartel hitman Miguel Velez, who was convicted of killing drug smuggler Barry Seal in 1986, has died while serving his sentence at Angola State Penitentiary.

Pam Laborde with the state corrections office said Velez had been in hospice for some time and passed away on Aug. 25.

Velez was convicted in 1987 of killing Seal along with Luis Carlos Quintero-Cruz, who was the actual shooter, and Bernardo Antonio Vasquez. Seal, who was from Baton Rouge and smuggled drugs as part of a DEA sting operation, was gunned down while working community service in the city.

Seal's story has been the focus of several documentaries and movies over the years. Tom Cruise is set to play him in an upcoming biopic title "Mena," after the Arkansas town where Seal flew in much of the drugs he smuggled into the U. S. A Netflix Original Series titled "Narcos" which features the Medellin cartel kingpin Pablo Escobar whom Seal informed on premiered this past Friday.

From the 50s into the 90s the CIA has been pretty much unaccountable and done some of the most worst actions committed by our govt . Several rogue units were just a disgrace in their beliefs and they basically ran foreign policy no matter what Congress or OPUS said back then

This guy never even should have gotten caught, his capture was a mix of pure luck and his own utter stupidity.

Took a cab to Alabama after the hit, and was well on the way there but the taxi hit a deer deep in Mississippi, he hadn't even bothered to ditch the keys of the car used for the murder, or most of the clothes used(he did swap out the green doctor-type pants used in the hit but wore another set of green pants, LOL). Stone killer for sure, but no surplus in the wit department.

I know the movie with marky mark and denzel called "2 Guns" is fictional but the movie portrayed exactly this with DEA charginng the cartels money to keep the free flow of drugs into the US

Yea this was a cartel hit for sure. He even had cameras stashed in his plane that caught a lot of people on film during this whole ordeal. What got Seal killed was the idiot judge that said publicly where he had to report to the halfway house so of course everyone knew where to go and kill him if they wanted.

As for George W. Bush, etc. well supposedly in Seal's pocket or briefcase I forget was Bush's personal line at the White House. You do the math.
