I'm a little confused, if skinny was mentoring little nicky in the late 50s,in south philly, & keeping watch over the friendly lounge at 8th & washington, then how come he was portrayed as atlantic city's capo until his death (which also by some accounts a little mixed up)..where did he reside?? or how did he maintain his operation being here & there all at the same time,,not to mention his supposed closeness w/frank sheeran???

He had a house here and Philly.

Most people that lived in Philly had family or a house on the island here.

So he had operations here and there.
As he got older he spent more time at the shore .

Could I get a link to a website about some information about Skinny Razor? Seems like there is no information nor a picture of him on the internet.

Like Serpiente said, a lot of people from Philadelphia area vacation at the southern NJ shore. And the two cities are about 1 hour driving time apart, so they're within commuting distance. So a guy from Philly staying in Atlantic City some of the time, and going back and forth would not have aroused the least bit of suspicion.

The same could be said for New York wiseguys years ago. Tons of Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens wiseguys had places out in the Rockaways and Long Beach. But that's a long time ago. Most of that area, save for Breezy Point, is a sewer today.

It's not only that the neighborhoods are terrible (and they are terrible), it's also that Hurricane Sandy did a real number on the Queens coastline. And like I said, the only nice neighborhood left, Breezy Point, was devastated by 9/11 because of all of the firemen who lived there. Then, two months later, American Airlines Flight 587 went down right on the Point. Absolutely tragic.

Long Beach was beautiful back in the '60s and '70s. We rented a place every summer when I was growing up. I must have been about fifteen when Lenny's Clam Bar opened up on Howard Beach. We'd drive there for dinner a few times each summer. The place was always jammed with wiseguys. He ended up opening like half a dozen restaurants in the Metro area, but the original restaurant on Howard Beach is the only one left. Come have a glass of wine on Joe wink.

Pizza I think you're getting your locations of the rockaways mixed up that plane crashed on beach 131 st in belle harbor witch happens to be a very nice area along with the neponsit section of the rockaways, breezy point lost a lot of the houses during hurricane sandy with the electrical fires. Far rockaways now that's a different story. And long beach is still beautiful as well and super expensive. These neighborhoods are as far from terrible as you can get.

I can remember being a teen and I was in the car with my father and grandfather and they were saying that they had to stop at Skinny's place, and this was often.

Now this was a long time ago but he had a bar called Town Tavern on Altlantic ave between California ave and Iowa ave. on the south side of the street.(obviously run by someone else)

All the guys from Ducktown and from the Chelsea section would go there for what ever they needed ,money or to bet.

I "do not know" if his name was on the license or not ,but he had so many guys to run stuff down here .

That place was right in the middle of the Italian and Irish neighborhoods.
We did "not" have a Irish gang ,they all worked for the Italians as far back as I can recall.

You're right. But Breezy Point and Belle Harbor are right on top of each other. You get my meaning. It was tragedy after tragedy. And I believe that Breezy Point lost more firemen than any other area in the city on 9/11.

32 of the 343 had homes in breezy very small community. But the fires caused by sandy took out almost the entire neighborhood.

Right. That's what I meant about 9/11. I meant per capita when I said that Breezy Point lost the most firemen.

I hear you but those neighborhoods aren't terrible at all belle harbor and the neposit sections are very expensive that what I ment by you get the areas mixed up breezy is a gated community.

I know that. I did leave out Neponsit and Belle Harbor. But I'm a Bronx guy, and those areas are all three right on top of each other. You need MONEY to live in Neponsit. I was talking about the Far Rockaways. When I was a kid they were beautiful. Try walking through there at night today wink.

Anyway, we only lost one firefighter in Throggs Neck on 9/11. Mike Lynch. Great kid. The saddest part was that he wasn't even stationed in Manhattan, he was on temporary assignment that day.

Yeah, Long Beach is still very nice. Earlier in the thread, I mentioned that we summered there every year back in the '60s and '70s. Remember Vito's? Everyone remembers Vito's. Now that place closing was a tragedy lol.

Yeah, I know it's on Youtube. Joe DeCandia died a few years ago. His son runs the place now.

Speaking of Long Beach, ever been to Shines? Great dive bar. And Chauncey's was the fucking greatest back in the '80s.

Well, Chauncey's is long gone. Condos. But you just ruined my night.

The best part of Long Beach for young people back then was around West Beech Street because it was reasonably priced for young people. Tons of dive bars. There are still a ton of those little cottages that get rented every summer. My friends and I were paying like $1500 for the summer back in the late '70s, and they're literally shacks. I can't imagine what they go for today.

It's funny because I just mentioned the other day that when Elvis died I was out in Long Beach with my friends. We were in one of those rentals for the whole summer, right off West Beech. I had just graduated high school. 1977. We were stunned when it came over the radio, and very, very drunk lol.

It will. They're not going anywhere. They've been there forever. Surfers are practically the anti-hipster.

Plus, people in Long Beach already have money, so it's not like they're going to get priced out like in places like Williamsburg and other NYC neighborhoods that were blue collar just ten years ago. 22 year old kids from Ohio aren't coming into an ALREADY affluent town and pricing out the locals. No way, no how.

No, these carpetbagging kids invade the blue collar neighborhoods and price out fifty year residents on Mommy and Daddy's nickel. THAT'S the gentrification that has to go. Long Beach will be fine.

This Mayor is such a putz and so anti-cop that crime is going to go through the roof again. And when these kids start getting raped and mugged in the fringe neighborhoods that they're trying to change, they'll run right back to Anytown, USA. I guarantee it.
