This explains so much, why Anastasia was so dependent on allies, he betrayed his own power base, not so sure about this. his power base was on the docks. and the power base remained with his brother even after his assassination. the reason gambino made scotto a captain in 63 or 64 is that he delivered the docks to him in truth, the calabrese were out-numbered in italian organized crime circles by the sicilians, so anastasia was probably smart to reach an accommodation, though it seems to have meant taking a back seat to mangano for twenty years it would nonetheless be interesting to know where the people in his crew originated from, and where their top associates came from. were they predominantly calabrese? or did the fact of his being a non-sicilian allow him to ally more easily with jewish gangsters?

Maranzano and Luciano didn't go around reassigning people to different Families. Where are you getting this idea from that there was a reassigning of members?
Mangano was previously under Frank Scalise when he was the boss for a brief time, Manfredi Mineo before him, and Toto D'Aquila before him. We're not sure who Anastasia was with before Mineo, but he could have been with Mineo and stayed with him when Mineo took over the D'Aquila Family, or Anastasia could have been with D'Aquila before Mineo took over the Family (Mineo the boss of a separate Family in Brooklyn and made an arrangement with Joe Masseria to depose D'Aquila). Joe Valachi gives an account of Maranzano allowing members to switch families at the huge gathering. Valachi was with Gagliano family, but at his making ceremony, Joe Bonanno pricked his finger, to bring Valachi into the society, but he was still with Gagliano and Lucchese. After Joe The Boss was killed, that is where Maranzano had that big meeting in New York with many members of New York City in attendance, where as I said Maranzano allowed members to switch families, and he picked the bosses and underbosses. Valachi switched to Maranzano/Bonanno family, and later due to a question of Joe Valachi loyalty and if he was going to be a problem later on, he was switched to Luciano family, which he should have went back to Gagliano.

Dont make sense, MANGANO gets killed and BONNANO and PROFACI dont strike back ... PROFACI and MANGANO came to america together on the same boat. No reprisal the reprisal was looking the other way when Anastasia... just because you're not involved doesn't mean you aren't glad to see somebody go. 🤷
