In the 1950s, when the exiled to Italy, Luciano began granting numerous interviews to reporters visiting him. His response to columnist Leonard Lyon’s very direct question, “Do you have any regrets?” further adds credence to Lucky being in existence well before the gangster ever took a ride. Luciano told Lyons, “Just one thing. These tattoos.” Luciano was referring to a pair of tattoos he had acquired at age seventeen (he was thirty-two years old when the kidnapping and beating took place). Each forearm was inked; one was a nude woman, the other–the word “Lucky.”
