This documentary looks excellent. Was anyone around during this era or have any info on the gangs and the city at the time?

How did the 5 families react to these gangs?

LD,

good post. There's a doc. from THAT era called "80 Blocks From Tiffany's" that really captures the grit and horror of that time and place.

trailer and full vid is up on youtube

Gets, in the doc 80 blocks from Tiffany's, at around 17mins, "Father Gigante" is interviewed...wonder if this is Vincent Gigante's brother -I thought he was a priest of some sort?

Not the most cohesive documentary, but I enjoyed it. Thanks for the tip.

Hoodlums had much better fashion sense back then! And of course great music too

And, yes, that is definitely Father Gigante, the Chin's younger brother

Anyone know how Crazy Joe Alverez leader of The Savage Nomads died? All I have heard was that he died in 1980's.
