Im fascinated at the life of Meyer Lansky. In my opinion , he's the most interesting mobster of all time. How he was essentially an outsider ( jewish) operating within the world of a italian organized crime.

Never heard of any BUT, if there was ever a plot to take him out, I bet you I can pinpoint the man who was thinking about whacking him.

And my guess would be Vito Genovese!.....Only because Lansky was a big earner AND Vito always thought he was an outsider that didn't belong with them.

I don't think modern day mob enthusiasts give enough credit, if any at all, to Lansky. In my humble opinion, he was the probably equal in stature to Luciano, but probably a lot smarter. This man toook LCN to places and heights it never dreamed of.....he took the CN model and reproduced it around the globe including London, Beruit, Cuba, etc.
Lansky was definitely the brains and politically astute arm of CN to Luciano's muscle.

Curiosity: was Lansky ever in jail, even preventive custody? I read he stayed locked up for a couple of months in Israel before being deported, what about USA?

I read once where albert Anastasia called lansky " a money grubbing jew" no doubt out of jealousy, albert wanted to be included in the Havana casino gambling operations, and lansky, and trafficante were against it.

He lived in a few different spots, pmac. Mostly around Hallandale. I knew one of his old neighbors there fairly well. That particular house was small and unassuming. I've read that Hyman Roth's house in "Godfather II" was right on the money in terms of how small and discreet it was.

All the old-timers who remember them down here say the exact same thing. That he was very low-key and quiet. And that his wife was a hopeless, low-class loudmouth, who'd curse and spit at anyone who looked at her funny. I've also heard that she was very bitter after he died because all of the stories about him not leaving much behind turned out to be true (not that most mob watchers want to believe that, but I've heard it's true).

Well, the older American-born Jewish population has been steadily creeping out of Miami and a bit to the north. It's kind of a White Flight situation, no other way to say it. Palm Beach County is now home to more Jews than anyplace in the world outside of Israel and New York City.

But it's funny that you mention it because there's been an influx of Russians in the North Miami Beach area these past few years, and a good portion of them are Jewish. That's why I differentiated them from the American-born Jews.

Just to clarify for some people, Russian gangsters in the past were notorious for claiming Jewish roots, getting Israeli documents, and using that to expand into other countries that way. A lot of "Russian Jews" got to America that way with their Israeli papers

The truth is quite the contrary because it's a very diverse group of wealthy people settling in Miami-Dade now. The moneyed Brazilians are buying up property like crazy. The poor Brazilians are moving to Broward County.

well i don't exactly know if there was a hit ever took out on lansky's head BUT i know waxey gordon and lansky were going at it fierce during prohibition era over bootlegging and gambling. i know a good number of men were lost due to this power struggle between the two.
