Hello.

Who were the most unstable mobsters in history?

I was thinking of somebody like 'Mad' Sam DeStefano.

Thanks.

I read Anthony Mirra was pretty unstable: if you ask him how his mother felt today, one day he told you "okay", and the other day "what the fuck you are poking you nose into this for?!" or something like that.

Rosario Borgia was more than unstable: when he couldn't buy the Akron police, he just told his men to whack them all (and they genuinely tried to).

Vic Amuso and especially Anthony Casso were paranoid and saw rats in everybody.

And in Sicily, under Riina's rule, crazy and unstable people like Pino Greco, Mario Prestifilippo and Filippo Marchese were pretty common, but were eliminated after having been used to the full.

Willie Marfeo to Henry Tameleo:

1) "You people want a loaf of bread and you throw the crumbs back. Well, fuck you. I ain't closing down."

2) "Get out of here, old man. Go tell Raymond to go shit in his hat. We're not giving you anything."

Not for nothing but a thread on which mobsters are/were actually stable might be more interesting.

Plenty of made guys made it through the life… whatever that means… without killing three figures worth of people. IMO Roy was a psycho, plain and simple.

Was it not Carmine Galante that pushed his way to the front of the (mainly black) phone queue in the prison and said "ni**er, get off the phone".... That might just be balls, rather than unstable mind you, but Im sure he was a nutcase anyhow

Mirra was the first name that sprung to mind, but there will be a million other guys who were batshit crazy who just didn't make our, or my small, radar!

Tommy Pitera and Anthony Mirra definitely. I'd also say Danny Greene to an extent.

A lot of Chicago guys.

I say mad Sam definitely. He did so much sick shit but what stuck out most to me was when he beat this dude and chained him up and had the guys family members piss on him.
That's one unstable person if you ask me.

I say the Chicago guys. What they did to Action Jackson was insane. Then they carved up Leo Foreman like a fish for fun. There was the M&M murders where Chuck Nicoletti was eating a plate of spaghetti while eyeballs were being popped out. DeMeo chopped up bodies to hide the evidence. The Chicago guys chopped up bodies for laughs.

Cutting up people, dissolving body parts in acid and torturing prisoners are normal thing in the mafia world.I know that all of these things look psychotic to all of us but hey, if you were a made member of mafia how are you going to get infos from your enemy?Or how you gonna get respect and fear from the other guys around you?How you gonna hide the evidence of the victims that you've been ordered to kill? Fear and toughness are the prime forces of the order in the underowrld. Also killing for a reason, thats the most important thing and of course keeping your mouth shut about it.

I would also agree that Mad Sam was the most unstable mobster but not because of his torture tactics and number of murdered victims. But because he didnt keep his mouth shut and didnt act like a normal person. For example this guy was publicly threatening and was showing the middle finger to judges in courts that were already on the Outfit's payroll. He was talking to reporters and saying stuff like "Even the president of the U.S. can borrow some money from me".He was making a circus out of every public hearing which was a very bad for the Outfit's business. This guy was walking the streets of Chicago in his pajamas with his dick hangin out and he was pissing in Roemers coffee for christs sake. And yeah i almost forgot...as a sign for punishment he also forced his wife to have sex with unknown person. rolleyes

Mad Sam had a look in his eyes that other mobsters shared. It was the look of some kind of dyslexia, like he was cross eyed, confused, and knuckle headed, all at once. Casso had that look. Scarfo Sr has that look. Tommy Desimone might have had it. Vito Genovese had it to an extent. Albert Anastasia had it. Galante had it. They were all nuts.
