In the late 70's Nick (The Blade)Virgilio driven by Nicky Scarfo sr. drives the Blade to Helfants bar and restaurant in the hart of Atlantic City during a snow storm and the blade walks right in and blasts the judge .

For me the murder of JFK (for those who believe), the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa in 1975 are in the top of the list, then the murder of Danny Green, the murders of George Aronwald and police officers Carlo Antonino and Ralph Dols.

Carmine Galante killing Carlo Tresca for Vito Genovese , and Albert Anastasis ordering the murder of Arnold Schuster blowing out his eyes for giving up Willie Sutton.

That was fucked up, and pretty much against the rules (in America anyway). I've heard one version where Dio went off the reservation and ordered the acid attack himself, and that Tommy Lucchese went ballistic when he found out. But Dio was a cash machine, so he let it go. But who knows?

Why was Schiff hit anyway? Was he involved in crime and slipped in some way or was he a normal businessman who didn't want to pay protection?

I think there was a case when the Colombos killed a nun (Veronica Zuraw) in 1982. Thomas Gioeli was alleged to be involved.

What about the beautician chick who Tommy De Simone was nailing?

And the two kids that were murdered by The Gemini Crew?

And the pornographer that De Meo whacked?

And Frederick Todaro?

And the kid that witnessed Gaggi & De Meo whacking the Eppolito's?

A savage hit and clusterfuck. And people just kept getting killed when they became expendable. The Carinis got popped, then the guys who popped the Carinis got popped. All out of paranoia, and over trying to hit a Fed, which is supposed to be against the rules in the American Mafia. But that's neither here nor there.

yeah, moe you are right the brunette that desimone cut open. her name was I think Theresa fararra. and one of the girls the Gemini crew killed was named sherrie golden.

I think killing women is cowardly, and only the sickest dogs do it.

Really Binnie if you think about it, a hit on anyone is cowardly. It's not like it's hand to hand combat. Everything is on the sneak.

In mob lore, prolific hitmen are lauded as so masculine, even super masculine. But their profession is a cowardly one.

A prime example is how Vince Governara wupped Nino Gaggi in a man to man fight. Gaggi couldn't get revenge any other way except to try and blow the guy up. He failed at that, and so then he and DeMeo (a bigger coward) shoot the guy.

Not brave.

Of course Alfa, but you know mobsters aren't really known for being fair, or "fair" fighting. They're Machiavellian to the core.. they read The Prince and study it.
Plus, at the end of the day, life isn't fair... by that comparison American troops are pussies using nightvision when bombing or killing enemies armed with inferior technology.

I get what you mean though, but when the stakes are so high, there's no such thing as fair anymore.

-Hmm, more than a couple... Really I don't know the exact amount, maybe I shot him 10 times, 12 times?
-Maybe fifteen?
-Hmm, it could've been fifteen...

Patrick Penny.

That's a good one to recall on the occasion folks want to recall what a 'stand up guy' etc Gaggi was. He was a verrry lucky piece of shit he wasn't killed by that off-duty cop after the Eppolito hits, for starters...

There's a great book to be written JUST about the Patrick Penny killing but I highly doubt it could be done; you'd have to find Penny's family, the D.A.s, possibly jurors, those two girls in the car with him in Brighton Beach the night of the hit... etc.

Still, there a lot of details, stories out there not covered in say "Murder Machine," "The Brotherhoods" and the various lesser books.

Veronicz Zeraw was a ** former ** nun btw but that was still awful of course.

Another, related topic would be innocents wounded in hits or, more rarely, attempted hits. You really have to go through the newspapers day by day in the 1970s/80s to get a sense of how crazy things were, good # of hits esp. on associates or those of unknown relations just came & went, unsolved, and if they're unrelated to anyone who later flipped... it's forgotten.

If we are including the Italian Mafia then the Anti mafia judge Giovanni Falcone would have to be number 1..

Matteo Speranza was killed in a case of mistaken identity in a Brooklyn bagel shop during the early 90's Colombo war.

I read about that one, that was a real slaughter, right in broad daylight, the killers got the wrong guys, and it really brought the heat down, which it should have.

But was it enough heat to get anyone convicted or did everything end "as usually"?
