So this Allen Hilf was really one of the biggest bookmakers in the US? Can you expand on the part in the article about the big detroit/ny gambling bust you wrote about? Had no idea these two families had any sort of dealings. I would expect Detroit and Chicago to be engaged in some joint ventures. Any info would be much appreciated.

Hilf was huge...one of the most powerful non-Italian OC associates ever

The '92 bust was mainly Detroit LCN, the Genovese were being used as a "layoff bank." The one Genovese to be nailed in the bust was a guy named Joe Costa.

The Det LCN and the local black underworld used to work very closely together - a little bit of interaction still, mostly LCN financing drug shipments in the city, not a lot.

I would have thought the Detroit LCN would keep a wide distance from the black gangs. They are too disorganized and violent. If some black drug slinger stiffed them, what's the Detroit LCN going to do about it? It's not like they can go into the ghetto and start whacking people.

Also do you know of the Philly fam ever having any sort of joint rackets with Detroit? Any connection there? My guess would be no seeing as they have always been relatively small and the best shot of any sort of involvment would be with Bruno and his union power but total speculation. Any insight?
