Stein is a typical moneyed nerd trying to feel vicariously tough through Joey. He knows he's being used, he just doesn't care. Because the alternative (his white bread reality) is worse. He doesn't ever want to go back to playing bridge with the Weinsteins and the Rosenblatts. Some people have to learn the hard way.

I agree 100% with Pizzaboy's assessment of Stein, SPOT ON

He is from Philly area and suburbs and made his money in healthcare facilities. Wouldn't be surprised if that's where Merlino had some of his "philanthropic" efforts. Doubt this guy is involved in anything more than what PB put down...old guy looking for some action and is essentially paying to hang with Merlino. Also, I'm no lawyer, but if Merlino is under investigation and all that then couldn't he potentially be aiding abetting racketeering conspiracy? Starting with the restaurant as a front to launder Joey's money? Might be a lot at risk here just so at the end of the day he can say he paid Joey's dinner tabs for a few years...

I agree wit ur assesment. N ur right, he would be culpable of aiding n abbetting an already known convicted felon in racketeering.

PB, Stein is a tough old jew that came up in the 70's under Trafficante.

He is actually working as muscle for Joey, and Joey is the one kicking up to him.
