Does anyone know if bop.gov updates their site even after someone is released?

As an example, I was looking up Phil Rastelli's brother Carmine and it says he was released in 1992 BUT is currently 93 years old.

I also looked for an obituary but found nothing that says he died.

I know if they die in prison, the site shows it, it is just when I research released people, it may be incorrect.

They don't update the site when a released inmate dies.

PB is correct. I have wondered though if they ever plan on doing something about that as at some point John Gotti will be 175 years old.

bop is good for a laugh about race too. Henk Orlando Roomy and Richard Reid are both white men in good standing to them. So is Zachiarius Mousaui (sp) I believe but don't quote me on that.

I found that there are many prisoners with my name.

I doubt it. I just checked it as kind of a litmus test.

Someone that I was very close to was in the Federal system several times. He passed away in 1996. According to that website, he's now 92 years old.

And furthermore, I have to believe that the site wasn't even up yet when he died (he died around Christmas time 1996). I mean, I was late in getting online. I bought my first computer at 45 years old back in 2004. But I'm pretty sure that most websites came into existence after 1996.

Point being, the guy was probably already dead from the first day they put his name into the site. So I doubt the Feds would ever care enough to update things. But you never know, I guess.

When an inmate gets released they basically go anywhere in the world. The government isn't checking obituaries in El Salvador to update their website.

Randomly scrolling through the above list came upon a 'Gus Frasca'. Genovese capo. Deceased 1980.

Anyone have any info on this guy?

MORGAN: Why didn't you fight him at the park if you wanted to? I'm not goin' now, I'm eatin' my snack.
CHUCKIE: Morgan, Let's go.
MORGAN: I'm serious Chuckie, I ain't goin'.
WILL: So don't go.

They should just list the inmate's age at the time they are released. Problem solved.

That would make too much sense, Teddy.

Florida leaves your mugshot up on the site even if you're found not guilty.

Federal mugshots are protected from FOIA and are not available to the public. (Most) state mugshots are not protected by law and are public record.

In this article it says it was a split decision on the release of Fed mugshots. If you live in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit's district (Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee) it says you can request them. The article is from 2012 so there might of been a further determination/ruling on it more recently.

The decision (posted here) leaves the federal appeals courts split, 2-1, on the issue. The Tenth and Eleventh have held mugshots exempt from FOIA and the Sixth found them subject to release under FOIA. The Sixth Circuit's decision has led to an odd practice which has somewhat swallowed the federal government's rule against disclosure. If a requester in a Sixth Circuit state asks for a mugshot, the Marshals service will release it and subsequently will release it to anyone. Many national news organizations now employ stringers in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee to request such photos for nationwide use.

I'm not sure though if this only pertains to the US Marshal Service, but i would think if it covers one fed agency it would cover the others.
