In the future, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act.

I don't normally care for Japanese films but this is a great film.

The book the movie is based on is pretty good. Hunger Games basically ripped it off.

My brother watched it, said it was rubbish

The director passed away from cancer before filming started, so his son took over production and devoted it to him

Tarantino said in plenty of interviews , that this is his favourite film

This is one of my favorite films. It seems a ton more realistic than the world they try to paint in Hunger Games, and the people act like actual people, the fear seems real, the emotional and psychological effects of that situation feel genuine.

Hunger Games is really just a "battle royale" for kids.

I actually bought the second film as a Christmas gift for myself two years ago at a foreign film store in a local mall. It is definitely different, and there is a VERY odd underlying thing with soccer that they keep going back to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It doesn't touch the first one, but what would you expect? It's definitely worth a watch, just don't try to compare it, and make sure you expect something a bit different.
