Who did Galante actually give the green light on? People/news articles always are saying how he had hit guys in other families but you never really get names or from which families. Aside from the Genovese story which is hard to believe can anyone shed some light on this for me...

That 7 guys from Genovese is BS but he did kill at least 1 Genovese capo, not sure of his name tho but he was a big smack dealer

He also hit Andimo Pappadio who was in the Lucchese administration and another big dope dealer .

I also heard he hit a Gambino soldier

There was a lot of internal pressure for the bosses to kill Galante, especially Genovese and Lucchese , that combined with Galante greed did him in but IMO the hits was the big driver . He killed some real heavies that were also huge earners who had a lot of respect in LCN circles , again mainly Genovese and Lucchese .

Galante early retirement was 100% his own doing , if he had some more brains he really could have had some great remaining years as he was so insulated from law enforcement.

How was he insulated from law enforcement? The guy spent his whole life in and out of jail!

Meant when he was boss , the zips were his buffer

Pappadio and Galante worked together but became drug rivals after the big bust. Galante went away and Andimo got off, Ormento went away too. Some of Galante customers went to Andimo.

@ DB, the Genovese Capo you are thinking of is Pat Eboli, brother to Tommy Eboli.

Pat disappeared in 1976. Can't say for certain that Galante was behind it, but the rumor is that either Salvatore "Toto" Catalano or Baldassare "Baldo" Amato told the Genovese crime family, that Carmine was involved in Eboli's disappearance some time in the spring of 79'. Anthony "Tony Ducks" Corallo boss of the Lucchese crime family, felt that Galante was behind Andimo Pappadio's murder in 76'. Both Eboli and Pappadio were heavy in drugs and turned massive profits for both of their families. By the Late 1970's, the Bonanno's were raking in the majority of drug profits, which made the other New York families wonder and jealous about the money the Bonanno's were making during this time. Not only that, but a majority of the other bosses felt that Carmine was a loose cannon and a rabid dog that needed to be put down.

Thanks GV

Appreciate the info and with the details you provided , connecting Galante to the Eboli disappearance seems more than logical. In regards to Andimo I know for certain it was Galante. I have heard the rumors about Ducks being involved and some power struggle but that's not accurate. Andimo was a very low key operator and had as much cash as some bosses with trafficking and he also ran the garment center for the Lucchese for a long time. He was one of the more powerful wise guys many people never heard of , with a lethal crew.

Many say cheating the bosses out of money was the reason Galante was hit but IMO the pressure the bosses were getting internally is what led to the ok . He killed several huge earners and long time respected wise guys without approval , and basically was the type of boss that the commission was set up to prevent . He was certainly tough but also dumb as rocks as he could of had a great life in his later years.

Was Eboli a east harlem or Bronx guy ? As I got the feeling some of Galante hits were personal as well

Not too sure, but I think Pat was an East Harlem guy, I could be wrong. The Eboli's were split for a time as Tommy Eboli was with Vito Genovese, and Pat was with Charlie "Lucky" Luciano when those two hated each other. The Eboli's got along better when Vito finally died in 69'. Short lived as Tommy would be killed in 72'.

So that's two possible hits on drug rivals. If Galante was responsible, I wonder what took the other families so long to get rid of him.

Anastasia wasn't going around whacking capos in other families. His murder was part of a power struggle between Costello and Genovese.

Which other crews? Most likely it was Gambino members. Genovese took out Anastasia first because he was more dangerous than Costello.

Genovese tried to take out Costello first but failed, it still had the desired effect and Frank stepped down as boss. Anastasia vowed to put his friend Costello back as being the boss of the Genovese crime family. Vito was hoping that the mafia commission would prevent Albert from interfering in a family dispute, but then he heard rumors that Luciano was backing up Anastasia from Sicily and Lucky still had powerful friends in the United States. With that Genovese reached out to Lucchese and Tommy tapped Gambino to get the ball rolling. There is a rumor that Galante had a sitdown with Anastasia about killing Frank Scalise over a drug dispute when Vito found out that Scalise was not reporting or sharing the drug profits with Albert.
