1)Is the LCN still powerful or will ever get back to its Golden Years?? It's certainly still a major force in New York and, to a lesser extent, in a few other areas of the country. But the "Golden Years" will never return for any number of reasons that have been listed many times over. 2)What is the Current biggest Organized crime faction/syndicate?? That's where it depends on what definitions one uses. What groups constitute OC, what constitutes a member, are we talking in the U.S. or internationally, etc. 3)Modern crimes of mafia?? Most of their crimes are what they've always done = gambling, loansharking, extortion, drug trafficking, theft, fraud, labor racketeering, infiltration of legitimate businesses, etc. 4)Are Mobsters still idolized and glamorized in neighborhoods in NYC?? I'd guess to some extent, yes, but I'll defer to the local guys on that one.

okay thankyou ,i was under the impression that the LCN in nyc was pretty much taken as a joke now a days but thanks for clearing this up..also I know that the Russian mafia has a hook on hacking and computer fraud so is the LCN involved in the same type of fraudulent activity??? Okay and you said the LCN is still involved in extortion,do you mean like Collecting Protection money from local shops and restaurants or some other form of extortion??? and thanks again for the info @IvyLeague Eurasian organized crime groups are very adept at various types of financial scams. I read once that 60% of cases involving Eurasian OC has to do with some type of fraud. The LCN is also involved with various types of fraud, sometimes partnering with Russians or other ethnic groups. The gas tax scam is probably the most well known example. Others would include stock fraud and healthcare fraud. Extortion can come in many forms. Yes, the old shakedown of a local business for protection money. Extortion is a major weapon used in the mob's labor rackets. There's also extortionate extension of credit, i.e. loansharking. The demise of the mob in New York, while a reality, has been very much overplayed. You can look at the cases in recent years to see that it's still very active there. And law enforcement officials, who previously made many predictions about wiping it out, have become much more cautious in doing so. It's a slow process that depends on attrition more than anything.

Okay one last question Was the jail stay for gangsters as easy as it looked in goodfellas?? and does this still happen for mafia members who go to prison today or do they haft to live like every other prisoner??? Back in the day it probably was like that for some mobsters. Then they had more clout and institutional corruption was more widespread. Generally speaking, they are like any prisoner now. Though there was a case back in the early 2000's where members of some of the NY families were bribing guards for various things. But what you see in that Goodfellas scene really isn't reality anymore.

So the mafia really is just nothing more than a criminal syndicate and the government pretty much shut down most of the corruption and gangsters aren't treated like celebrities anymore and more like local bullies and jerks instead of glamorous players... kinda dissapointing?? Once you sweep away the myths, Hollywood, etc. the Mafia has always been a criminal syndicate made up of thieves, killers, etc. The glamour is a lie. It's always been an ugly world, including back when the mob was at it's peak.

A criminal is a criminal is a criminal.
Doesn't matter what label you use or how you dress them up.
Mafioso, crip, Sinaloa, yakuza, triad, plain old thief.
Different cloak, same person.
MORGAN: Why didn't you fight him at the park if you wanted to? I'm not goin' now, I'm eatin' my snack. CHUCKIE: Morgan, Let's go. MORGAN: I'm serious Chuckie, I ain't goin'. WILL: So don't go.

Well i Figured that was probably the truth ,but it sucks to realize that hollywood takes a mob story and turns into a Glamorous world and make The Mafia into some type of Secret criminal fantasy,Anyways thanks for all of the info Hollywood doesnt make the mob glamorous, stupid people do I dont see anything glamorous in a scene when two gangsters are beaten with baseball bats and than buried alive
