I was just wondering if anybody could name some gangsters who didn't drink alcohol.

Carlo Gambino never touched that stuff. He was a featherweight. Can you imagine what damage a 100 pounder could do just by smelling the cork?

i remember reading a NYT piece about Joe Campanella from the colombos after he flipped, that said he didn't drink, smoke, or gamble, and he attributed that as to why he did well for himself when he was on the street.

there are probably a lot of wiseguys who don't drink or do drugs and simply just "work", similar to a lot of average working civilians.

i'd imagine the most common and damaging vice that wiseguys have is gambling

It's the same percentage as any other walk of life. They're just people, with the same habits and problems as any other people.

I'm sure there are/were a fair amount as being a drunk or alcoholic would not be good in that line of work. It could give someone a bad repuation or image, and too much alcohol can lead to fights/drama/car accidents if driving drunk/death.
