Harry D'Ascenzo used Sindone supplied funds to lend to Matthew Pinto, then the owner of the Stardust Club in Wildwood NJ. D'Ascenzo lived at the time in Somerdale NJ. When he was released from prison in 1979, he went to live in Shillington, Berks County, Penn., and worked for Vincent Santarelli at the Santarelli Supermarkets in Reading. Pinto borrowed a total of $18,000 from D'Ascenzo in 1969 and was not keeping up the payments. At one point D'Ascenzo appeared Pinto's Marple Township home and told Pinto's wife that her husband might be killed if he did not pay up. Pinto was unable to keep up the payments, but he was not killed. The Stardust Club, however was purchased by Frank Merlino and members of his Family. Harry D'Ascenzo and his brother Pasquale, also pressured Delbert Rowlands, who operated an electrical contracting business doing work in southern NJ and Exton, Penn. Harry loaned a total of $19,000 to Rowlands and Ernest Ritacco, Rowlands and Ritacco could not meet the payment and the D'Ascenzo brothers pressured Rowlands and Ritacco at their job sites. Rowlands portion of the loans amounted to $10,000 to be paid in 90 days with $5,000 interest. Rowland received an extension by promising to pay another $5,000 in interest. Some 10 months after the original loan was made D'Ascenzo, in typical loanshark fashion , forced Rowlands to treat the $20,000 as principal. Rowlands was given 20 weeks to repay the $20,000 for a total of $30,000 and an additional $500 to cover "expenses" for the loan extension he was granted. By repaying a total of $30,000 for the privilege of "borrowing" $20,000, Rowlands paid the equivalent of an annual interest rate of 219%. Rowlands said he kept on making the payments because he feared that D'Ascenzo or "his people" would destroy his equipment of harm himself or his family. Rowlands was also responsible for paying off Ritacco's delinquent loan. Olando "the Barber" Castellante was also pressured by the D'Ascenzo's over a loan totaling $1,300. Harry made loans to both Castellante and Rowlands at his place of business, Philgo Bonding Co.; South Broad St. Philly, a performance bonding company.
