The Caruso clan largely left Bridgeport after the Leonard Clark beating in the late 90s. Most Outfit guys live outside the city and far from their Grand Avenue or Bridgeport or Cicero haunts.

Ah, I know that about guys generally living outside the city, but I thought they were still down there.

Lombardo of course was the exception.

Actually a lot of the Grand Avenue guys still reside in the neighborhood. Bobby Dominic, Phil Cozzo, Christy Spina, etc.

Originally Caruso's right hand guys were Richie DiSantis, Joe Pacella, John Balzano, Aldo P "Shorty JR." Piscitelli, Rocco and Richie LaMantia, Anthony Carvatta and Mickey Gurgone.

I would say a few of those still active in Caruso's crew today are those mentioned above minus Mickey Gurgone. Angelo Imparato and Richie Cantazone I believe are both probably dead. Casey S obviously is a major player in that crew as well.

If you guys want to read about Bridgeport, I would highly recommend reading Anthony Serritella's "Memoirs of a Bookie" which came out a year ago...he changes names, but you can tell exactly who these guys are.

In Chicago this weekend for a bachelor party. Tomorrow after my plane gets in, I'm going to have a car and a day to myself. Any neighborhood bars or restaurants to check out where outfit guys are known to frequent, own, etc? Or maybe even just some cool sights? If nothing else, I wana eat at a good restaurant (Italian) that isn't a tourist trap. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, I didn't know where else to post this.

For a nice dinner I would recommend Gene and Georgetti's. Very good steakhouse and has a very 1940's feel. As far as pizza goes my favorite is Vito and Nick's. Both of those restaurants are not touristy and won't be like ginos east, pizzeria uno, giordanos, ect. As far as hangouts today, I would check out Bridgeport, Taylor Street, Grand, and the Elmwood Park area.

Go to Joes stone crab on Rush, best food in chicago, google em, if for Italian go to Cafe Bionda, or Volare downtown.
But frank let me for warn you, in chicago we don't play, don't ask no questions or act like a cop approaching strangers, matter fact if I was you just sit back eat drink and observe lol cause you can get dealt wit on-site, in the restaurant bar in front of 50witnesses with video cameras in the joint don't matter, in the chi people are old school, that means "they didn't see anything" and that video will disappear one way or another. The scary part is the cops def don't wanna help you, then you can sue a local joint where they hang off duty lol... especially if your from outta state, they really won't help you lol

Joe's stone is trash imo. Gene & Giorgetti, Volare, & Bionda are all overrated imo and most certainly tourist traps. Not off the beaten path whatsoever.

Head to Gio's in Bridgeport, La Luce at Lake St & Ogden Avenue, or any of the better places near 26th & California (Heart of Chicago) for truly off the beaten path Chicago Italian fare.

For more upscale Italian fare, Piccolo Sogno in the Patch (Grand & Halsted) & Spiaggia are excellent choices. But also, Google an establishment called A Tavola, an incredible spot near Chicago Ave & Damen. Best goddamn Ossobuco in the city.

If you really want to visit a "little Italy" district, Elmwood Park & Berwyn (to a much lesser extent) are the only places relatively near the city where wops who live in the area are congregating & bullshitting in numbers on the street. Taylor St is all yuppie/student trash & Grand Avenue (the Patch) is all yuppie & Mexican. Very unfortunately.

The average age of an Italian hanging out on the street in Elmwood Park and Berwyn is around 70.

The days of traditional white neighborhoods of Italian, Irish, Jewish, Polish, Greek neighborhoods are for the most part long gone. In Chicago now, it's Black, Hispanic and White.

The younger generation was raised in the West and Northwest suburbs. The mid twenties to mid thirties crowd lives downtown (Lakeview, Lincoln Park, River North etc.)

naww, There's plenty of young to middle aged Italians gathering for pool & drinks on Harlem. Berwyn as well.
