Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Sullivan doled out a 114-month sentence, a year year less than the minimum the feds had sought.

Reputed Genovese crime family foot soldier Salvatore Larca asked a judge to let him off easy Wednesday for running a massive marijuana distribution enterprise in the Bronx because weed is becoming mainstream.

Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Sullivan sentenced Larca, 45, to nine-and-a-half years in prison for his role in the drug operation, which also allegedly involved former "Mama's Boys of the Bronx" reality TV star Anthony Zoccolillo and three sons of notorious mafia boss Vincent (Vinny Gorgeous) Basicanio.

In a pre-sentence letter, his lawyer wrote that 84 months would be appropriate because "society's views, and corresponding laws for the drug involved, marijuana, has been drastically changed over the last five years — quite possibly even to the point of being legalized in the United States within the next ten years or so, if not sooner."

"Marijuana, I think our society is having second thoughts and a new conversation about … but this case is not really about marijuana. It's about trafficking," the judge said.

Larca is an ex-convict who had $30,000 of cash in his home and 40,000 pounds of marijuana in his warehouse when he was busted last year. He imported the weed from California to distribute in the Bronx.


The 114-month sentence was slightly below the guideline range for the crime. The feds had asked for 126 to 159 months.

"Mr. Larca was appreciative of the court's consideration and one-year reduction and is fully prepared to serve his sentence," defense lawyer Vincent Martinelli said.

assuming its high quality, a conservative estimate IMO is in the neighborhood of 100 mil. that warehouse must have had the whole block stinking.

Second generation made guy with the Westside. Sal Sr. made a fortune pushing skag with the 116th crew back in the '70s. He was also very close to Fat Gigi and the Lucchese guys from 108th (and those were pretty big dope guys themselves).

And Barney loved the father. How do you think Junior got his patch in that family at such a young age? .

From the total outsider/ mob researcher perspective Ernie Muscarella's crew has to be the strongest and most secretive crew around. Seem to have the most relationships with Chin, Cirillo, Barney etc.

Read an article online from 1988 where Larca Sr was arrested along with Bellomo for selling heroin, was that Barney? Or his cousin.

As far as I know, Ernie and Barney are from the same crew. It's the one that Fat Tony used to run. It's could be argued it's not only the strongest crew in the Genovese family, it's the strongest crew in the entire mob. Several of the family's leaders in recent years have come from that crew.

Exactly. That's the old Buckaloo crew that Sammy Black took over in the '70s. Then when Sammy got bumped up, he put Barney there. Barney was like a son to Sammy. And it hardly ever gets mentioned, but if Sammy Santora didn't die so young (natural causes), he'd have been Vince's successor for sure.

I know things were different back in the day but modern day I see Italians only holding onto the their drug trades because of political alliances. It seems they're more of financiers for small cells of cartel groups that are in every little town in america believe it or not. I guess the Italians still wholesale to blacks. Dominicans are independent operators.

But you'll have hispanic and black gangs or routy little youngin's moving those packs all day in Phila, NJ, NY. I spoke with a former DEA Agent who was hired as an expert witness in a drug case of a very good friend of mind. He was an older black man some of the stories he told me over lunch were mind-blowing. This guy if he were white would of blew Joe Pistone out of the water with the amount of shit he was able to infiltrate but I'll stop there this is a public forum.

Those guys bought, transported, dealt, sold, and also made alliances. Anyone who thinks that nothing is going on in the Bronx, or that the Italians are not pulling strings, does not know anything about the Bronx today.

Are Quiet Dom and Mangano related to this crew at all? Or do they run their own specific crews? Are they just considered senior members with no specific crew who just have there own interests in various schemes?

I'm also interested to the extent that the Genovese Jersey crews operate with Bronx Genovese guys, there seems to be some overlap.

The current status and shape of the Genovese is so interesting to me, there the real deal it seems- no rats, no bullshit, just making a lot of money in a lot of different ways.

Totally insane how little info there is. Interesting to think about how they keep it so insular. Maybe it has something to do with there plea taking policy or maybe the top guys don't demand a lot of $$ from soldiers/associates. Of course luck probably has a lot to do with it as well.

if its nice OG or sour which is huge in NY than it can go anywhere btw 3600-4400 depending on how many being being picked up by the dealer at one time (wholesale). if sold retail to a customer you can get rid of it anywhere btw 5000-6000. either way major dough to be made!

i think that the daily news got the amount of weed drastically wrong it was actually 3,000 pounds of weed and that was when it was upped from a 100 pound shipment. Most reports say that it was a $2million dollar operation.

This the same case that involved the three Basciano son, where in the originally press release they said it was only "hundreds of pounds" that got shipped from california.

All three of imprisoned-for-life Bonanno crime family boss Vincent “Vinny Gorgeous” Basciano’s sons were busted by the feds Wednesday and charged with running a pot-dealing operation.
Joseph Basciano, 27, and brothers Vincent Jr. and Stephen pleaded not guilty before a Manhattan federal judge to running a mini-marijuana enterprise in which the feds say hundreds of pounds of pot from California was brought to New York for distribution between August 2009 and April 2013.
Vinny Jr. was released on $500,000 bail and Joseph on $250,000 bail, but Stephen remained in custody awaiting a bail hearing after prosecutors argued he has a long history of violence that includes being taped by a government witness bragging about having a gun with a silencer for years and having no problem “shooting people in the leg.”
However, Stephen Basciano’s lawyer, Matthew Mari, argued “there’s no guns involved in the case”or it would be in the indictment and asked the government to present the tapes before Magistrate Judge Henry Pitman decides on bail.
Papa Basciano is serving two life sentences for mob murders.
Joseph was scheduled to appear in Queens Supreme Court on Thursday for allegedly being part of a separate scheme to smuggle weed through the mail.

Cirillo and Mangano are from other crews.

In addition to Bellomo and Muscarella, other members in the crew include Artie Nigro, Robert "Bucky" Carbone, James D'Elio, Pasquale "Scop" DeLuca, Pasquale "Patty" Falcetti, Michael Ragusa, Carmine Dellacava, Louis DiNapoli, Joe Pontoriero, Nicholas Auletta, and Salvatore "Sally KO" Larca.

Other guys, some of who may be made now, include Barney's cousin Liborio "Barney T" Bellomo, Joseph D'Elio, Anthony Fiorino, Jerry Fiorino, and Jimmy Muscarella.

i think the bascianos got charged with 1000 pounds, also there were complaints about the quality of it on the wiretaps by another co conspirator.They moved about 2 pounds a week.

I think overall it was a big operation but not a major one. If you look at what the informant recorded with larca's end of the operation it said that he had access to two 500 pound shipments, they moved 100 pounds first then increased the load which tells me that they weren't neccesarrilly sure or capable of moving tonnes of the stuff, $3000 pounds is still a lot of weed but theres been groups moving much more than that in ny.
