Hi everyone. smile
I just got the godfather novel and I'm wondering:
is it the story of all 3 movies?
I havent seen the third film - do u think I should see it before reading the book?

And if the book is only the first 2 movies-is it first half of the book=first movie/second half=second movie?

The book covers most of the first film and has scenes from the life of young Vito in the second film. There is no part of the novel that goes into Part III, so don't bother seeing that.. it won't really enrich the book.

There is no particular order (like first and second halves of the book). Mario Puzo used his mastered ability to weld the different passages into just the right places to tell the story perfectly with flashbacks. There are also new parts of the story, with more emphasis on things like Johnny Fontane, Lucy Mancini, and middle-aged Vito's power struggles.

Puzo and Coppolla co-wrote the screenplay, as they did for the first two parts of the trilogy.

i don't think you should tell him NOT to watch the third one. dude watch the third one, it's the ending of the trilogy, then tell us what you think of it. remember to have your own opinion. i still think part three is still better then the rest of the mafia styled films.
