I was watching GF2 on the DVD collection the other day and took advantage of the fact to try get a better look of that chart in the background where the "Corleone Crime Family" is detailed. However, I could only make out what was in the upper left hand corner. Has anyone ever been able to get a copy of the entire thing, or make out most of it?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the boards, Don Luca.

Check out Harlan Lebo's "The Godfather Legacy". It has a picture of the organizational chart you're talking about.

BTW - Nice avatar!

Nice to see two avatars in a row; especially Humphrey B. He would have been a great young Vito in his prime. Check out the Lebo book. The org chart is great. Especially the fictitous names in the family.

Thanks. I'll have to pick that book up soon. I've been lurking for the past few days, after watching the Godfather Prt. 1 and 2 on DVD (Part 3 is this coming week) with the commentary (fairly interesting. I never realized that Paramount nearly screwed the pooch on the Godfather. Contemparary Mob film with hippies? WTF? The only thing that really bugged me was the fact that FFC thinks that every actor he's ever met, it seems, (except for the one playing Johnny Fontane) was "wonderful".).

And I'm quite a fan of Humpery Bogart movies, as well as Film Noirs in particular. However, I still consider "The Godfather" and "The Godfather, Pt. 2" to be tied for personal favorite film (I really can't decided as to which one is better).

Don Luca you can also take advantage of the zoom button on your remote if you have one it helps a little more but the chart is still blocked by people.

The Corleone Family chart didn't cover every single Family member in the Organization. Because I'm sure it has many hundreds of employees. The chart just showed probably the most important people I'm assuming

How about this chart on the internet??? I'd love to see the full scale of the Corleone empire under Michaels rule. Imaginge how huge it would be including Pentangelli's (ex) family (even though "your family's still called Corleone").

I always though the chart was a hilarious proof of how bad the FBI had their facts: Underboss Fredo?!? eek

Fredo apparently had a regime. When Michael's about to depart for Florida after the Tahoe shooting, he tells Hagen that he's putting him in charge of everyone, including "Fredo and his men." That could make Fredo an underboss.

But Turnbull? I thought Underboss doesn't have a regime?

An "underboss" can have men under him, or he can be a stand-alone adviser to the Don. It's moot anyway, since the FBI or the Senate committee (whoever put the chart together), got it wrong: can you imagine Michael making a half-wit like Fredo an "underboss"--higher on the chart than Neri and Rocco?

I think that the commission was generally lagging behind the developments in the Corleone family.

The first major managerial move performed by Michael was more or less abolition of the traditional multitier hierarchical structure (Don-Consigliere-...) in favour of the much tighter direct subordination of all primary agents to the boss.

In this respect, the commission got it absolutely wrong. Putting Fredo in charge of Rocco and Neri is only an elaboration on that - but who knows, perhaps, taking into account the above, Fredo might have really been given this sinecure to keep him happy?

Looks like their research was sloppy elsewhere as well: remember the incorrect dates? I start thinking that the whole stuff was put together in such haste that they really didn't have the time to do it right. And perhaps FFC did wish us to notice this, after all.

Best regards.

Alexander

I view Fredo's title as underboss on the chart as a true, but largely ceremonial position. Fredo would have had the underboss title being that he was a brother of Michael and son of Vito and had to be taken care of within the family business. However he obviously would have had none of the power or influence that normally went with the title of underboss. Fredo was of course kept out of the decision making process and important business by doing errands such as "picking folks up at the airport" and "running Mickey Mouse nightclubs".

After the accounts that submerged in GFI, when you see Fredo start to "go his own way" and violate orders, and his treachery in GF2, it's quite obvious to the audience that we know Fredo would never be Underboss. Even if Michael named him successor upon his subsequent death, it would be a matter of time before Rocco or Neri took command of the Family. But to the FBI, that was about as credible and as close as they were going to get. My best assumption: maybe a little hast in the details with ranks and names, but excellent nontheless in displaying desperation and detective work on the part of the FBI for GF2.
