Any Lou Reed fans on this forum? I was pretty upset when i found out that he passed away a couple of days ago as i'm a huge fan of The Velvet Underground and some of Reeds solo stuff. RIP.

Just read this article tonight on Lou's last days.

Lou Reed's final days: Dazzling nature and tai chi, says wife Laurie Anderson

Oct. 31, 2013, 8:32 PM EST
By Todd Cunningham
TheWrap

Laurie Anderson, the wife of singer Lou Reed and a musician in her own right, offered an insight into the rock icon's final days in a letter she sent to the local paper in Springs, East Hampton, the New York village where they lived.

Reed, who had been recovering from a liver transplant since May, died Sunday morning from liver disease at the age of 71.

"Last week I promised Lou to get him out of the hospital and come home to Springs," she wrote in a letter posted Thursday by the East Hampton Star. "And we made it!"

"Lou was a tai chi master and spent his last days here being happy and dazzled by the beauty and power and softness of nature. He died on Sunday morning looking at the trees and doing the famous 21 form of tai chi with just his musician hands moving through the air."

Anderson and Reed, who influenced a generation of rockers with his raw and lyrical work with the Velvet Underground and subsequent solo career, were married in 2008.

"Lou was a prince and a fighter and I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life. Long live the beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us," she wrote.

Lou had a liver transplant a few months ago but they said he died of liver failure so i guess his body might of rejected the new liver.

Besides Lou i know Papa John Phillips had a liver transplant and so did David Crosby. Shame Lou's didn't work out for him.

I read that article earlier as well. At least he died at peace with himself.

PBS is airing a program about Lou Reed this evening. I think it's at around 6 pm here.

Love Lou Reed one of the great classics.

"And the colored girls go.....doo-dee-doo-doo, deet-dee-dee-doo-dee-doo-doo......."

I remember when that song came out and 99% of population had no idea what it was about. Very simple tune just two chords, but genius in its simplicity.

Lou was a big H user for years. An earlier poster put up some of the lyrics to his tune "Heroin".

More than likely he got Hep C from a dirty rig.

I don't know how many of you will feel about this, but these guys (Crosby, Reed etc.) were millionaire performers. They could afford the very best medical treatments etc.

What about all the poor people out there who have liver disease in the family history and never shot dope in their life? Who looks out for these unfortunate souls, and who mourns these Mothers , Fathers, Sons.... when they die because they didn't have the millions to keep themselves alive while waiting for a liver?

I've spent many years around IV heroin users and almost every single one had Hep C which slowly destroys your liver. They have "self inflicted" problems.....

Just something to think about.

Salvi
