If Spiegel's reporting is correct, then Iran's newly-elected President Rohani is set to announce the closing of the Fordo enrichment plant and allow international inspectors to monitor the removal of centrifuges. In (hypothetical) exchange, the West led by the U.S. would ease the economical sanctions levied against them.

If a legit diplomatic deal can be hashed out neuter the Iranian nuclear program (thus stop what many believe to be their aims to create nuclear weapons) instead of bombing/war, then I believe this is an option absolutely worth exploring. We made arms treaties with the Soviet Union, a superpower worth fearing. Iran has the fucking GDP of Finland. Don't let the "appeasement" cries from the right-wingers distract you.

I agree, if a diplomatic solution can be found let's take it. I'm liking this new President, much more modern than the last fuck head that was in office.

However that being said, we should not lessen our standards and Obama should make that clear.

It would be great if some kind of deal could be negotiated but I think they really see us as weakened, so I am just not too optimistic, but hope something works out

People elected Rohani to do just that. If it was up to people Ahmadinejad wouldn't have gotten a second term, alas he cheated and people's demonstrations led to their arrest and killing.

People of Iran are in no mood to engage in a war. Call them weak, but who wants to die for no good reason? Jihad is such an 80s term, it's laughed at much like the music of the era and fashion.
