this is probably a ridiculous observation but whatever........
GFIII mikes hair color is very light almost grey. IMO this is to symbolize purity, a new michael corleone.
as the movie progresses the roots grow out and you see the dark hair peeking out. the old michael is starting to come back.
anyone else have any opinions on this, has FFC commented on his hair? am i just reading too much into it?
thanks,
robert

Robo,

Did you have the black level on your TV set adjusted? wink Next time I'll have to see if his hair gets darker as the picture progresses. Maybe it was a bad dye job, or it was growing out, or the make up artist was inconsistent. I don't think there was any hair-symbolism.

i thought maybe it was just a careless make up job, but sometimes i like to think outside the box, just for shits and giggles

I am pretty sure that was not intentional, but like you said, way to think outside the box. I never made the connection.

Wasn't his hair really really white at the end of it though?!

I thought Michaels hair looked stupid in Godfather III what ever happend to the slick smooth hair that he use to have. Now hes sporting what looks like a flat top. Even his father had the slick hair thats one of the things that made them so smoothe because they looked it and acted like it

I am sure the hair colouring was not necessarily intentional in terms of Mike's spiritual growth, but, he did confess to the Cardinal. I love the way the Cardinal describes how the stone in the fountain remains dry inside, just like the Vatican staff being surrounded by religion but not actually absorbing any of it. Mike seems to be reaching for spiritual forgiveness, but knows he is 'too far gone' to be able to actually achieve a form of Gnosis. After his confession, he realises the Vatican are covering up a corruption. Realises he is being 'stiffed'. It would be interesting to think that a gradual hair darkening reflects his growing anger and distrust, once again, with all those around him.
I am reading far too much into it I know, but it remains an interesting thought - perhaps.
Ciao

I think we are all reading too deeply into this.I think towards the end of the movie, they ran out of grey dye. I dont know of anyone who has grey hair, but then they're natural colour grew back in.

Movies are not shot in sequential order. Scenes tend to be shot in an order that is most convenient for shooting with scenes on a particular set or location filmed in blocks. That way a set can be dismantled sooner with the studio space used for other scenes and the expense of location shooting can be kept to a minimum. Thus if the change in Michael's hair from grey to black is consistent (I had never noticed), then it is likely that the change was intentional as the scenes were not filmed in the order we see them.

Interesting. I'm not sure about this, but i do remember FFC saying something about his hair in 2 and how it keeps getting longer and the longer it gets the wekar the family becomes compared to how strong it was before the shooting of vito in part I. Something along those lines...

"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."
