I have a question for those who might have insight.

Why has Washington D.C. or Baltimore for that matter(since they are both reasonably close by) never had a sizeable LCN presence? Esp. since both cities had large Italian-American communities(Baltimore still does)and DC did before the 1968 riots.

Washington and Baltimore have had a notable presence of other OC groups such as Jewish and Black gangsters along with bikers in the 70's and 80's. And most recently criminal gangs from Central America.

Washington and Baltimore have had a notable presence of other OC groups such as Jewish and Black gangsters along with bikers in the 70's and 80's. And most recently criminal gangs from Central America. But then again no presence of the LCN in the local underworld unlike similar areas further north such as Philadelphia.

The only instance of mob activity in the DC area that I can think of was an incident in the late 1980's where a mafia member directly from Italy named Sal Cottone ran drugs and an auto theft ring out of a couple of restaurants in the VA suburbs in a case that became known as the pizza connection.

While in nearby Baltimore there has always been rumors about some of the characters who frequent the social clubs in Little Italy according to some of my relatives.

Other then these why hasn't the LCN had much of a presence or interest in the Washington D.C. area or even Baltimore for that matter?

The Gambinos had a crew in Baltimore up until the 80's, forget the name of the guy but he was supposedly a heavy hitter.
