Johnny - I find it interesting, too. Hitting Schultz was another example of the " criminal brilliance" of Luciano ( and The Commission). The decision was made that taking out Thomas Dewey would bring too much "heat." Schultz thought otherwise and paid the price. Of course there could have been other reasons.
I read about him giving or making some "deathbed" statements, but had not seen this until now.
