Good documentary strax. That was a very good point made around 4:40 mark. In Sicily also, you'll find the women are much more vengeful and have longer memories than their men many times.

People don't understand how important women are in the mafia over there. Just because they don't have titles, doesn't mean they're not behind a lot of it, or the foundation. Women are very controlling in their families and take the same controlling roles in the mafia. And the men listen. And, because being married to a mafioso isn't a crime and they are never forced to testify against their husbands, they can get away with a lot.

Over there you dont mess with a woman's sons and especially not her husband. The unconditional love is the same for both and it's not like here where women cry the whole, "I didn't know what my husband did for 30 years for a living, boo hooo..." Over there the women are proud and if they're ever arrested for mafia crimes themselves, you'll see they never put the face down, they're almost like martyrs in their mind.
They groom their sons many times and raise them to be made men, especially in Ndrangheta.

Carmela, all excellent points. Yes, I said in earlier postings that the women are sometimes tougher than the men. LOL.
The men have to listen and there is generally a good balance.
An Italian woman's pride is her son. How very true!

Titles don't mean shit. All that matters is a person's FUNCTION. I always suspected that many of the women in the mafia clans in Italy are full functioning members of the ongoing situations.

I think there were one or two women in Calabria who were actually 'Ndrangheta bosses. Don't know if they were acting bosses, but they gave orders and the men listened. Think of a Griselda Blanco.

Your right there's definitely been a few in the Camorra and Ndrangheta. I haven't heard of anyone in the Sicilian Mafia, maybe Carmela would know?

Carmela, Cicero needs to marry or at least recruit a few of those women and bring them over to Chicago. LOL.

This is what I'm trying to convey. People are looking for one or two names of women that they've heard of, blah blah blah, and always throwing those couple names around when this topic comes up, when in reality, most women play a role and they sure as hell all know what's going on, nobody is in the dark in their home about what their husband and sons are up to. The mothers and the daughters are the caretakers and nurturers in every way, in those families.
Again, it's more cultural than anything else.

Some of the Camorra is/was definitely Cosa Nostra. Cosa Nostra has a cosca in Napoli, the Nuvoletta brothers were Cosa Nostra and there was a faction which was controlled directly by Michele Greco. Also, Carmine Alfieri said that Riina and Provenzano stayed with the Nuvoletta brothers in the early 1980s during the fighting with Raffaele Cutolo. So Cosa Nostra had a confirmed presence in Napoli but it seems it is only the bosses or select people from Camorra who were Cosa Nostra. So Carmine Alfieri was not Cosa Nostra though he was against Raffaele Cutolo.

But with the 'Ndrangheta... it is suspected La Santa may be Cosa Nostra or maybe some of it is. It was created by Mommo Piromalli in the mid 1970's and includes only select people who can join... freemasons, police etc.

Also, according to Buscetta, there is no 'Ndrangheta and no Camorra. He said that the alliance that defeated Raffaele Cutolo was Cosa Nostra and that the most powerful people in N'drangheta are also Cosa Nostra.
We also know that much of what Buscetta said was just blowing smoke.

Does La Santa still exists today? I found it hard to believe in what Buscetta said.

I don't know for sure, I can't say.

As far as Buscetta, a lot of what he's said I find hard to believe, but it is true that there are made cosa nostra members in camorra and 'ndrangheta.
