Have any of the NY Families move to new territories like Rochester,Pittsburgh,Bufalino to run they dead families rackets?

From now on, nothing goes down unless I'm involved. No blackjack no dope deals, no nothing. A nickel bag gets sold in the park, I want in. You guys got fat while everybody starved on the street. Now it's my turn.

I can't speak for anyplace else, but in the Pittsburgh/Western Pa. area the Mafia is a shadow of it's former self. There are a handful of made guys, mostly old men,and the rackets here would not be of interest to any of the big New York Families.

The numbers, sports betting, and loansharking are still big,and there is some union corruption. The strip clubs and after hours joints are still moneymakers, and there are still video poker and "cherry machines" in a lot of places, but not like the old days. There is some legitimate business infiltration, and a little bit of narcotics, but a lot of the drug trade is going to the street gangs as well as the One Percenters.

Also the Pittsburgh guys still have interests in parts of Ohio and West Virginia. All in all they still do OK here, but nothing like before.

Two territory cases with the Bufalinos.

In the 70's, the Genovese Springfield faction began laying claim to many cities throughout New England. One of these cities was Albany, where a Bufalino associate continued operating. His name was Joseph Maruca and he was shot by the Genovese but lived. (10 years later, coincidentally, he was gunned down in Delaware. It could have been either family or it could have been a rival bookie. No one is certain).

Another one. Ed Sciandra, acting boss of Bufalino had his hooks in a professional boxer. At some point, he cut him loose, but Jo Jo Corozzo began managing him for big money. Sciandra personally went to the Ravenite to call a sitdown. Sammy the Bull presided, with orders from John to rule in Gambino favor. However, Sciandra beat the issue like a dead horse and returned to the Ravenite to demand more meetings. Gotti ducked him.

one of the reasons beacause was killed Angelo Bruno, was the fact that the Gambinos and the Genoveses wanted to operate in Atlantic City without seeking permission from the family of Philadelphia, now miami is an open city, while in the eighties and Lefty Ruggiero, Sonny Black, had ask permission to Santo Trafficante to operate in his area.
So the new territories as well as Las Vegas and California are from the 80s Atlantic City and Miami.

Also stanfa was put in as boss because he was backed by the gambinos, then after the war and stanfa went jail and merlino was basically running things i dont think there was a lot of contact between philly and new york. But when ligambi took over he started to resort ties, evident by the meeting steffanneli recorded with all the top philly guys and john gambino.

I read this story too. It could be in the Mikey Scars testimony which can be found on-line, actually I'm almost sure it is.

The fighter was Buddy McGirt, who went on to become i believe the WBC welterweight champion. Interestingly, his manager was Al Certo, who was known as a Genovese associate. In effect three families might have had a piece of McGirt at one time or another.

McGirt apparently had no idea that Sciandra had an interest in him, and he thought that he was just some old drunk that he met at a party:

As far as the current day, not really. While you'll see a guy doing something here or there, for the most part, the activities of the remaining mob families don't extend beyond their traditional territories. The big exception is the NY families operating in South Florida.
