Since we don't have a Music Forum.....some songs have great Lyrics; one line or verse that says it all; profound; funny, etc.

What's your favorite? What have you heard lately?

One of my old favorite singer/performers is David Bromberg; guitar virtuoso in folk, blues, blue grass, rock. He has played background for many artists and has several albums. His latest recording is titled "Use Me". from that recording a song titled "Tongue". The closing lyric,

"....get your tongue out of my mouth, I'm kissing you goodbye."

How about, from Bob Dylan, "Positively 4th Street", "Do you know what a drag it is to see you?"

For me whenever i think about great lyrics i always think about lynyrd skynyrd simple man.

Forget your lust for the rich mans gold, all that you need is in your soul, you can do this o baby if you try all that i want for you my son is to be satisfied.

A great classic song and a great philsophy on life.

"Let me tell you something. There's no nobility in poverty. I've been a poor man, and I've been a rich man. And I choose rich every fucking time."

The Beatles had many great lyrics in songs like Elanor Rigby, Here There and Everywhere, Strawberry Fields Forever, etc. And the lyrics in Sgt. Pepper are outstanding (Lucy in the Sky, She's Leaving Home, A DAy in the Life and Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite).

I also love Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills and Nash and other songs from the singer/song writers of the 70s, like Gilbert O'Sullivan (Alone Again, Naturally and Claire).

And as SC reminded me a week ago, Yesterday When I was Young.

I agree with the Kly's Beatle choice lyrics and would add Rocky Racoon off the top of my head but Beatles have lots of great lyrics.

Oh and I agree with MCs Dylan choice. I always loved that line. smile

Also, again, just off the top of my head,Simon & Garfunkle come to mind for example "I Am A Rock." Their lyrics are so poetic and beautifully done IMHO.

Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.

Or from Sounds of Silence (the whole song is poetic as far as I'm concerned:

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains

I'll think of more but these couple came to mind.

smile

Well, if we are talking humorous lyrics and tho not a C&W fan, I always loved the line from Johnny Cash's song....."My Name Is Sue....How Do You Do." lol

Two more songs with lyrics I really like are Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel and Roll Me Away by Bob Seger.

I am he or she while he as you are myself and we're completely. See how these people work like pigs from your firearm, discover how that they soar.
