Let me clarify for you; BGF use Swahili language/terms and Jamaa is their nickname. BGF is also known as Black Vanguard and Black Family.

As you read, within the organization are 2 wings: Cambone & B.E.N . The Cambone wing consist of the political division that teach about politics & culture therefore you could say they wrote this book. The B.E.N wing is finance which are involved in raising funds for the organization. It said the Ben wing have been involved in crimes which members want to denounce. It's mostly a facade and that some members are bringing too much attention to themselves.

the most recent guy was tavon white who was running things inside the detention centre.
This book was from the 2009 indictment. The leading figure in that case had some sort of community organiser front.

Jamaa is Swahili for family. The Black Vanguard and Black Family were groups that proceeded BGF and that were eventually evolved into becoming BGF

Some of you are all making basic mistakes in your discussion on BGF. One really needs to look at the history of the organization, institutional efforts to stop the group etc in order to get an understanding of the group. One cannot look at BGF through the same lenses as one would say La Eme.

I did a little research and found out that the guy who killed huey newton was bgf and bgf once consisted of former black panthers, I saw an independent movie that touched a little on the transformation but it did'nt get deep into it

There isn't a single boss , there are multiple leaders.

Todd Duncan is who your referring to and he was at that point the street commander. Tavon is just over that facility and how he got that position is a mystery. My opinion of his leadership is that he should of remained a minister of finance.

Yeah i think they were considered more of a threat due to the political climate at the time. BGF was more about the ideology than crime and were looked at as more of a national security threat. But i think if we are talking about them now in the present then really they are mostly a criminal group.

It is accurate, panthers was apart of bgf not "entirely" , but was apart, the movie that I saw didnt say bgf but they did show the younger movent calling themselves the vanguard, the vanguards was one of the gangs that merged with bgf from the begining, if I still have the movie I will post the title tonight

Check out the movie section I posted Black August about George Jackson and in the movie he said ( unsure how accurate in real life) BGF is the paramilitary wing of the black panthers and separate in case the panthers collapse.

This information can be found in the FBI website in their vault section. It's from 1974 and stated that some of BGF members were indeed black panthers. You can't overlook the fact that George Jackson was a member and panthers that were arrested/in prison during those times would join BGF ( not all of course but some).

George Jackson was named Field Marshall of the Black Panther Party by Huey P Newton. Yes, some members of the Panther Party mostly the Panther underground became part of the BGF. However one must remember that many believed Huey betrayed Jonathon Jackson when he took the hostages and was subsequently killed. There is some not so friendly feelings that many of the old BGF have/had toward Huey because of this.

A book recently came out entitled "The history of the Black Guerrilla Family" by Gabe Morales. It's only 38 pages I think. Have you read it or heard anything about it?

No. I'm going to get it later. It was publish at the end of July and going from Cali to Baltimore. It must be a very thick 38 pages or maybe just recycle info.
