Hello all,

I am John Petosa, just joined the web forum here. Just wanted to introduce myself to all of you, so that you know who I am.

I am very much into the whole Cosa Nostra world, I have seen every movie and have read almost every book about Cosa Nostra be it a true life story or be it fiction.

However, I have yet to read The Godfather. I read the first few pages on the Amazon.com review of the book, and I must say, I noticed then that it is much more informative then the movie is about details. So I ordered the hardcover edition yesterday.

I must say, I have never been so excited about getting a book. I am not much of a reader, but I do read many books when they interest me. I could never read a book assigned to me to read in school, but these kinds of books keep me on my toes.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, and to introduce myself. I wish all of you a blessed day and life.

God Bless,
John

Welcome aboard John. I'm sure you'll fit in perfectly here.

You will not be disapointed one little bit by the Godfather novel. One of the greatest masterpeices ever wrote - even if you weren't a Cosa Nostra fan you'd more than likely love it. Enjoy.

Welcome, John! Hope to see many thoughtful and informative posts from you. (And I like your avatar.)
Yes, you should absolutely, positively read the novel. As you've already discerned, it's got lots more detail than the film(s). Mario Puzo was, above all, a great storyteller, and the novel contains some wonderful stories that didn't get into the film(s)--such as how the Bocchicchio Family provided Michael's safe passage from Sicily; the rise of Al Neri; how the Don arranged for Bonasera to get his revenge, etc., etc.
(Turi and others: Amazon.com ought to give all of us a stipend for the business we've been sending them!)

Welcome aboard John. The novel is absolutely "unputdownable". You will see large chunks of dialogue that appear almost verbatim in the film. You will notice some slight variations eg the "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes" line. You will see Lucy Mancini and Johnny Fontane have much bigger roles in the novel. Characters like Rocco and Al Neri have backgrounds given to them and much more. Enjoy!!!

Tom: "They shot Sonny on the causeway...he's dead."
Michael: "Turnbull is a good man"
Shane MacGowan: "It was Christmas Eve babe, in the drunk tank"

Welcome aboard John [Linked Image]!!!

You won't be disapoint it by the novel. I was excited to have the book. I'm an avid reader and I read the book in four days!

I liked the parts in the 30's myself.

I just went to the library this afternoon and picked up a copy of The Godfather, the novel. I also picked up a copy of Omerta. I have already started reading The Godfather and must say that it is truly a great book.

Thanks for all the welcoming, I appreciate it.

John
