The novel says that Mike was discharged because of a disabling wound, and that he didn't know his Pops arranged the discharge.

I thought a disabling wound meant discharge in itself. What do you guys suppose Vito "arranged?"

Stanley: There's some people that rarely touch it, but it touches them often.

Well, I just hope Don Vito didnt arrange the 'disabling wound' eek

Only kidding, I havent read the book for ages I never picked up on that tho. I suppose a disabling wound should be grounds for 'getting out'?? ohwell

I always thought that the disabling wound kept him out of combat, but not military service. The Don must've quietly arranged a discharge.

Thanks for the input everyone. I just thought that a disabling wound meant discharge in itself. In movies, guys who get shot in the foot got sent home....oh wait, that was "A League of Their Own"...so, I don't know if that's an accurate portrayal.

I don't want to sound a stupid little boy or something, but I have the feeling the subjec title you're all referring too contains some sord of wordplay or something, which you have to be English or American to understand. I can speak English fairly but do not know every single saying or something...

I can imagine tons of things on how a 'discharge' can sonud gross, but can anyone explain me the real funny thing about it without laughing at me? frown lol

(and please don't start joking around about me now)

Discharge is often used when talking about bodily fluids. Though, here we're talking about military discharge, but Geoff has to have his mind in the gutter. Nasty boy! lol

Well, a discharge more implies something you don't necessarily want to have come out of your body... this definition:

A flowing out or pouring forth; emission; secretion: a discharge of pus.

If that sounds sexy to some of yooz, then,... grin

Hmmmmm, I always thought "discharge" was part of a sentence from The Bronx, ie. a credit card that wasn't accepted, such as "Dis charge card ain't no good". rolleyes

I don't think that's true at all - at least I hope it's not!!! Most everyone here I think has been respectful to our non-English speaking comrades! This is, after all, the world-wide web, so there's no reason to be critical of anyone!

Ok boys and girls, pull your minds of out the gutter wink

Well, first I don't know why Vito had to "arrange" a discharge. Michael was a captain, and officers can resign their commission any time they want.

Second, he got some "disabling wound"? He certainly looked healthy to me. He never says, "Oh, my war wound, watch it Kay."

Wierd.
