I read The Godfather for a class. I have to do a paper on it due in two days. I am searching for one scene in the book, but can't find it. I want to make a reference to it in my paper. I tried scanning the whole book again TWICE, but no luck. If anyone can point me to the scene where someone, I think Clemenza is cooking up some food (spaghetti and sauce?) for everyone even though it is a rough time for them.
It may sound weird, but I really could use the help finding this particular scene (page) so that I can refer to it correctly and in detail in my paper.
Thank You!

Its been awhile since I've read the novel, but I don't remember that scene in the book. Perhaps it was written solely for the movie confused

I don't remember that as part of the book. I know the part you are talking about in the movie:

CLEMENZA

Hey, Mikey, why don't you tell that nice girl you love her?

(then, in an exaggerated Italian accent)

I love you with all-a my heart! If I don't see you again soon, I'm a-gonna die! [laughs]

(then)

Heh, come over here, kid, learn something. You never know, you might have to cook for twenty guys someday. You see, you start out with a ittle bit of oil. Then you fry some garlic. Then you throw in some tomatoes, tomato paste, you fry it; ya make sure it doesn't stick. You get it to a boil; you shove in all your sausage and your meatballs; heh?... And a little bit o' wine. An' a little bit o' sugar, and that's my trick.

SONNY (after entering the kitchen)

Why don't you cut out the crap. I got more important things for you to do.

(then)

How's Paulie?

CLEMENZA

Oh, Paulie? Won't see him no more...

SONNY (nods)

"After all, we are not communists"

Christopher Moltisanti: You ever think what a coincidence it is that Lou Gehrig died of Lou Gehrig's disease?

Tony Soprano: Yeah well, when you're married, you'll understand the importance of fresh produce.

thanks everyone, but I did not see the movie, so I don't know where I could be remembering this part from. It was not a huge scene, it didn't stand out very much. I just remember something about someone (may or may not have been Clemenza)preparing a meal, or maybe just sauce for everyone, even though the times were particularly rough. (It was either right before a big meeting or right after someone got hurt or something like that). I'm going to look again. Maybe my imagination is running away with me. Maybe my boyfriend planted scenes from the movie into my head. But if anyone else can recall a scene like this in the book, please let me know. Thank you.

I FOUND IT!! Page 113 in the 30th anniversary paperback edition. "Clemenza had finally come back from his day's work and was bustling around the kitchen cooking up a huge pot of tomato sauce...'He's cooking up spaghetti for the troops just like the army'." It was right after Paulie Gatto is killed. In case anyone else is interested. Thanks everyone for your help.

You didn't see the movie???!!!???
OK...For your own good...Go out...don't bother renting them...BUY the trilogy. Lock yourself in a room for 9 hours, and LIVE my friend...LIVE!!!

There are men in this world who go about demanding to be killed. You must have noticed them. They quarrel in gambling games, they jump out of their automobiles in a rage if someone so much as scratches their fender, they humiliate and bully people whose capabilities they do not know. I have seen a man, a fool, deliberately infuriate a groop of dangerous men, and he himself without any resources. These are people who wander arround the world shouting 'Kill me. Kill me.' And there is always someone always ready to oblige them. We read about it in the newspapers everyday. Such people of course do a great deal of harm to others also.
