Can somebody please FULLY describe exactly what the new and original Godfather cover looks like? I'm planning to get it this week... And I want to know if I'm getting the original or the new one... Grazie. smile

The old one had a black cover with the puppett strings and a drawing of Don Corlone looking rather bald and grim, kinda like Brando in "Apocalypse Now."

are those the original first releases of the Godfather book Senor Turnbull? i thought the original was the red and black with puppet strings. have'nt seen the one with don Corleone's drawing, and have no knowledge of that. the one i'm talking about the "new" are the one's i saw recently with blurred pictures(forgot the design). all the Puzo novels have new covers. . .

Hey, bro! How's life, treatin' yah? smile And how are you, Turnbull? wink

Anyways... I got some questions.

I went to the Barnes & Noble site and I can't seem to find the one you're talkin' 'bout, Turnbull. Maybe the books with the original cover ain't sold no more, eh?

But, I think I saw the one you're talkin' bout, bro. Go to the Barnes & Noble site , look up The Godfather and tell me which one you think/know is the original.

Also, one last thing. On the very first one they show when I searched up Godfather at B&N, why the mother-fuck does it say "The Sicilian" right under "The Godfather Mario Puzo"!? Aren't those two completely different books? I'm confused. Oggie, Turnbull.... HELP!

No, no gigs lately, bro! frown lol

Anyways... Can someone answer this question - How come when I search "The Godfather" (minus the "s) at www.barnesandnoble.com , the first match(first book shown)says "The Sicilian" at the bottom of the cover? Aren't those two completely different books? Why's it there?! frown

Anthony, you may be encountering problems with Barnes & Noble because they sell books that are currently in print, and GF novel may not be in print now. However, I STRONGLY recommend that you go to abebooks.com and cruise them for a used copy. In fact, here are the first three, of many, entries for The Godfather. I've purchased several books from their sellers, and they've always been reliable:

My copy is the same as yours, Pastapunk. Is the man on the cover supposed to be Vito?

I think it is Vito. I still think it's UUUUUUUGGG-LEE! But it's now my favorite book, and stays by my bedside (front cover faced DOWN) for the time being. smile

Talk about ugly, THIS seems to be the current paperback version. Yucky puppet strings logo. But THIS is the classic version.

I also have the one with the drawing on it, which -- since it came out before the movie -- isn't supposed to be Brando. There is also a paperback version with a red cover with Brando on it (and a photo gallery inside) that came out after the movie.

I suggest Used Book / Book Trader type stores to find a nice variety usually...

I think I've seen a different cover.....I think was silver and shiny although I dont remember what the design was like and Puzo's other novels had similar covers.

Ok...I bought the Godfather novel today....it was printed in 99 I think and I think the publisher is arrow....I think it could be the "blurry" cover. The cover looks like this :
an grey-haired man in a black suit standing in front of a large window with his 2 hands leaning on a desk in front of him....the light from the window blurs the image of the figure and is reflected from the desk.
The cover has the name Mario Puzo written in large red font in the centre of the cover and nearer the bottom of the cover "The Godfather" is written in a smaller, white font.
This seems likely to be the "blurry" cover but Im not sure if it is published in the US or just in UK and Ireland.
I went onto the site of the publisher but couldnt find a picture of the cover but I found a nice picture of Mario Puzo:

I got the novel for this christmas, and it's beautiful. In big silver letters it says 'Mario Puzo' Beneath that it says 'The Godfather' with the logo. Beneath that it says in red print: 'The classic' wink

I think I got a very weird one.

It's black/grey and it just says

The Godfather (In grey/silver letters)
Mario Puzo (In white letters)

Does anyone know this book?

MM Floors I have yet a different one to yours and everyone elses - Yikes! I think I must have the ugliest version yet. But then again it's only paperback..... It doesn't have the Godfather font, it has a shadowy/blurry/way too skinny figure standing in the background of a very subtle title which says The Godfather in white Garamond style font....Mario Puzo's name is in big red Narrow Arial style font....it was the only English version I could find in my city on the day I searched for it.

Ach, what does it matter. It's about the text in the book not the cover.

I went to B & N and saw 2 versions. They had the Anniversary version which is smaller and the unbridged one which is bigger and more expensive.

I've got the blurry cover and the matching 'The Sicilian' and 'Fools Die' editions they are all beautiful. The sicilian has the same style writing as the godfather blurry edition but the background pic is looking out of a bell tower over what i presume is sicily with the silhouette of a bell in front. The 'Fools die' edition once again has the same text style and a picture of a '50s style black and white shoe stamping out a cigarette on the floor.

Hope this helps. You can see all the covers by going to amazon and searching for Mario Puzo. rolleyes

Michael asks, "what the hell does that fish mean?" And Tom answers, "the fish means that Luca Brasi is sleeping on the bottom of the ocean. It's an old Sicilian message."

They don't show the cover I have of the Godfather paperback although it's very similar to the Omerta and The Sicilian covers....

All of my Puzo books are like that too, the Arrow publication, except for The Fourth K and The Family which have the original Godfather font on the covers.
