This story broke last evening after dinner. Three women, 2 who were kidnapped as teenagers, escaped captivity after spending nearly a decade with their captors.

It hit home for me because the victims were held not far from where I work. And these stories were on the local news and even America's Most Wanted over the years.

There is a lot more to the story that will surface. One disturbing rumor is that there are supposed to be human remains in the alleged kidnappers backyard. One of the abducted women bore a child during captivity. The fear is that the remains be of other children.

This was a story with some similarity to bin Laden. These women were held in plain sight in a very poor neighborhood with closes nearly on top of one another. One of the victims was kidnapped a few blocks from where I lived a long time ago. They were held for the past ten years approximately 5 miles from their abduction locations.

Just an incredible story.

The main witness sounded a bit crazy, but he helped pull Amanda Berry out of the house. I heard a snippet this morning when police asked him to describe what Amanda was wearing. To which he replied one of those "wife beaters."

I caught the news banner headline last night when it first happened and have been gone most of this morning so am just catching up on this story. So amazing.

I just can't even begin to imagine what these girls have gone thru. I hear the girl that called had a 6 yr old. A decade of their lives robbed, not to mention the thought of any other violations we still don't know about. One girl's mother had a heart attack fairly recently I believe. How horrible she died not knowing what happened. The epitome of heartbreak if you ask me.

Btw, does anyone else think the 911 operator, tho asking the right questions, seemed kind of cold??

I'm not excusing it, but here is why the 911 operator appeared to be somewhat disbelieving. There were several false leads that came in during these disappearances. One was even a cruel hoax in which an inmate claimed that he knew where one of these girls was buried. The police dug up a location only to discover it not to be true.

I know more answers will be forthcoming. But it appears that these women were held captive for around 10 years. There appear to have been at least 3 men confining the women. How did Amanda Berry crawl out of there and these guys not know? It would seem that given the vast amount of time they held the women captive, it was obvious that they were not going to let them go. Did the kidnappers simply tire of keeping up this ruse or did they let their guard down for just a minute? If it's the latter, then even more kudos go to Amanda Berry for never giving up.

It's difficult, if not impossible, to comprehend the extent of evil that people can inflict. We can be grateful for the return of three lives, whose loved ones had considered lost, but it is heartbreaking, as TIS pointed out, to think about how mangled their lives had been suffering for a decade or more. It is hard to imagine each Christmas, birthday, school graduation, wedding, etc. that took place without their presence, how the families anguished unknowingly while their loved ones were locked away blocks from their home. I can't imagine the mental torment that the girls had suffered, existing in fear, isolation and darkness.

And perhaps the most depressing thought is that without a doubt right now there are young missing girls or boys suffering a similar existence somewhere.

Like that missing British girl Madeleine McCann. I don't think the parents were involved so that means she was kidnapped with bad intentions and if she is still alive i can only imagine what her situation is.

Yes, I remember that cute little girl. I don't think her parents were involved either. I can only imagine what they must be going thru. Perhaps tho, this story will give them hope that she is alive somewhere. They never found a body so maybe. It IS so heartbreaking.

As said earlier, God bless these young women as they recover. I can't imagine what their families went through. Just glad they're safe now.

The man who rescued the women is quite a character.

He does seems like a really nice guy and is quite a hero. He was asked about any reward money and said to "give it to the victims."

It seems that in those few instances when these victims are found, they are usually very close to home.

It seems that the Cleveland Police had occasion to visit the Castro residence several times in the past ten years, including one time when a young, naked woman had been reported to be crawling in the back yard, but apparently the door wouldn't be answered and the police did nothing further.

I really think getting raped in prison is wrong and unfair.

But for this case I really can't argue. I mean really 10 years of trapping these young women. I don't hope they do, but believe me I will not be bothered if they do.

I mean 10 years. These are the type of people who deserve to do hard time.
