I have recently returned from a trip to Las Vegas and my friends and I went to the mob museum. Please note that this is not the Mob Experience that is at the Tropicana, but is located downtown in the old courthouse on Stewart Street. If you are travelling in a large group it is beneficial for one person to purchase a membership for $25.00 as that means any guests of that person get in for cheaper than normal admission. We saved $19.00 for the four of us using this method.

As for the museum itself, there are some neat exhibits including the wall from the building in which the St. Valentine's Day Massacre took place and an explanation of the Kefauver hearings in the court room that was actually used for the hearings. The museum itself is (as expected) geared towards people with no knowledge of the mafia itself, which I had no problems with because several of my party went in with little to no knowledge. But, they found it rather informative, which is good. I expected a little more focus on the mob in Las Vegas itself rather than a general presentation of the entire United States itself. Nevertheless, I would say it is worth a visit despite it's downtown location.

As for the trip itself, we didn't stay on the strip at all. We stayed at the Palms, California, Orleans and Gold Coast. We've pretty much decided to limit our hotels to two from now on (1 downtown; 1 of Orleans/Gold Coast) as moving around was a bit of a pain in the ass. The Orleans and Gold Coast are a quick shuttle ride from the strip and have a descent sized casino, and in the case of the Gold Coast Bingo which is fun with a few drinks in ya. The California has some descent gambling too and the rooms are satisfactory. It is also full of Hawaiians and they are very friendly people. You'd get on the elevator and they'd always say hello and ask how you were doing, etc. It might just become a regular stay for me downtown.

We saw Elton John last Wednesday and he was excellent as well as Beatles Love at the Mirage which was meh.

EDIT: I'm thinking this post might not necessarily belong here, but I don't really know where it ought to go. Mods feel free to move it to wherever you feel is appropriate.

Everyone I know who has been there has come out very impressed at the exhibits and content. They have the barber chair were Albert Anastassia met his demise, Gotti's Jaguar and all kinds Mob and law enforcemnet memorabilia and exhibits. I personally thought it was very well done and informative.

I[m partial to the museum since I donated a good amount of material to them and they display almost all of it- Lots of the mugshot son thew all are Tampa guys, the two Gottis papers, Tampa charts, and some other odds and ends. I'll be out there in August doing an event as well.
