What do you people think about the Providence bookmaker Willie Marfeo killed in 1966 for refusing to pay "taxes" to the mafia? Even though he wasn't really a honest man, one must really have guts to hit Tameleo in the face and tell him "go f#ck yourself" and that Patriarca should "sh#t in his hat", considering the power the mafia enjoyed at the time, it was the 60s after all, no RICO law. I quite liked the character from how he is described in books, it's really a pity Patriarca served only 4,5 years for his murder.

Willie Marfeo to Henry Tameleo:

1) "You people want a loaf of bread and you throw the crumbs back. Well, fuck you. I ain't closing down."

2) "Get out of here, old man. Go tell Raymond to go shit in his hat. We're not giving you anything."

Marfeo was an idiot, the old man was the most powerful person in New England during the 60's including Governors, Mayors and Police Chiefs.

He should have known his days were numbered after dissing them like that..

An idiot maybe, but still an idiot who had balls unlike Patriarca and Tameleo who always hid behind the backs of their goons.

Dwalin, this quote comes from a story Tim White of WPRI in Providence just recently aired on the local R.I. news:

"Both Bulger and Flemmi’s file reveal information that supports Raymond L.S. Patriarca’s legendary power and reach in the region. A December 1980 memo in Flemmi’s file states Patriarca had law enforcement contacts in Rhode Island that were supplying him valuable intelligence.

“Source advised that Raymond Patriarca was aware of the fact that he was to be arrested for murder as he was ‘tipped off’ by the Providence law,” according to the files.

Bulger’s file offered similar information stating “the Rhode Island State Police have someone who is going to testify against Raymond for his involvement in several murders which took place in the early 1960’s.”

Patriarca was charged in 1983 with ordering the gangland slaying of Raymond “Baby” Curcio and Robert Candos. Patriarca’s declining health prevented a successful prosecution and he died in 1984."

Raymond L.S. Patriarca flat out owned New England in his day.
