I'd like to see Paulie beat those animals that hurt Bonasera's daugther.

For me it is the Johnny Fontaine character, (after all he is based on Frank Sinatra). I would have liked to see Tom Hagen's visit to Fontaine, when he tells him he can become a powerful producer in Hollywood. The scene where Fontaine throws the shot glass against the wall and it does not break. JF's relationships with Nino, and his slutty 2nd wife (Ava Gardner?), etc. The problem is that Johnny Fontaine is an integral character in the Novel, but just window dressing in all three movies. To explore JF even remotely on screen, would have been difficult, and extremely time consuming, in movies already fairly lengthy.

I would put the Luca Brasi-legacy mentioned above in, but not graphically, but in reference or something.

This is an old thread of mine! Anyway, having read it a few more times since, I still firmly believe Luca Brasi should have been given more prominence, the part where he hacks Capones men to death would have shown him to be the mad man he was (as we know from THE story), as opposed to the dumb witless fool esily taken out by Sollozo and Tattaglia

Could you get me off the hook Tom? For old times sake?

you can only put so much in a 3 hour movie...

if every Jules Segal - Lucy Mancini scene was in the movie... heck there could be an entire screwball comedy about all the Nevada chapters.

as for the Capone's, it iskind of strange in a fiction-book largely relying on true historical events to include a real life character like Al Capone. I'm very glad they did not put him in either the first or the second movie. "Maranzalla" as Tessio mentions in GFII is 'enough' of the semi-real life figures.

Mignon, welcome to the board..

Do you have the Godfather DVD collection? Or ever seen any of the additional scenes Francis Coppola did not put in the movies?

There's one of Fabrizio getting killed, that was cut out of Part II!!!!!!

Welcome, Mignon. smile

I'd love to see more about the Bocccio family on the screen, it was quite interesting to read how they were kept hostage as an "ensurance" to close the deal between the mob-families.

Also, not as relevant, but what I enjoyed reading was the friendship between Johnny Fontane and Nino Valenti (Also Vito's godson), and also Johnny's divorce.

I'd include, in order of preference:
--The Bocchicchios and how they helped Michael return from Sicily.
--Neri's story, and his rise in the family.
--The Don's war with Maranzano.
--The Don's move to Long Beach, including the "boiler inspectors" and Sonny's extension of "protection" to the community.
--Kay's departure to NH after the Great Massacre of 1955, and Hagen's visit to bring her back. This is very important because Hagen explains why Michael had to kill Carlo. If included in the films, it would have explained why he had Fredo killed, as well as all the others.
I could do without most of Johnny Fontaine, and all of Nino, as well as Jules and Lucy.

Those were my favorite parts. I wish they would have included the Bocchicchios in the first film, and the Maranzano war in Part 2.
