I think the funniest bit is a few moments later when Sonny comes into the study and has a post-coital cigarette.

Not any really hilarious lines or scenes in The Godfather, compared to say a movie like Goodfellas...

but humorous lines are plenty...

I always chuckle at Clemenza riding in the car with Paulie...

"Exterminate? aww, thats a bad word to use...Lucky we don't exterminate you."

Castellano's delivery is great...always laugh at "Awww, Paulie won't see him no more."

"...and then Johnny Fontane comes along with his olive oil voice, and guinea charm..."

GF1- After Vito returns home and they're all having dinner, Sonny brings up the business and his mom shuts him up. Then Carlo starts up again and Sonny says, "We don't talk business at the table." lol

I thought the seen in Godfather I when Vito's God child cries to his Godfather for help. Vito makes fun of him, calling him a baby. Then Tom Hagen smiles because in the book Hagen is secretedly jealous of him for being his adopted father's God son.

Fredo and Michael in Havana. Dialogue goes something like this:

"How do you say Banana daquiri in Spanish?"

"Banana daquiri."

"That's it?"

I always enjoy the scene in GFII when Signor Roberto the landlord comes groveling back to Vito to...after asking around the neighborhood.

The way he stumbles, bumbles and then SOOOOOO reluctantly lowers the rent is just too funny!

And that adorable clarinet ditty at the opening of certainly contributes to the lighthearted mood of the scene!!

For SURE it's the scene where Sollozzo is talking to Tom after The Don was (supposedly) killed:

Quote:
SOLLOZZO
It's good business, Tom.

TOM
I'll try, but even Sonny won't be able to call off Luca Brasi.

SOLLOZZO
Yeah... well, let me worry about Luca.

That ALWAYS gets me! 'Let me worry about Luca,' indeed ...

Am I the only one who thinks this is funny? In G1, when the don has lambasted Bonasera for not showing respect, Bonasera says "be my friend, Godfather?" Brando does this little facial
gesture, like he's still sulking. It cracks me up
no matter how many times i see it. smile
Also, the "masculine child" line, and when Hyman Roth instructs the guy "make sure everyone see the cake".

What have I done that you would
treat me so disrepectfully?

Willie Cicci when he's testifying to the councillor or whatever, it was pretty amusing.

And when Pete said to Paulie (before he was going to die): "Well think while you're driving will yah, I wanna hit New York sometime this MONTH." That was somewhat amusing too. grin

Then just after this when Roth has his cake offered to him he waves it away saying 'a smaller piece' that makes me smile too.

In GF2 when Vito and the family are in the 'wine making factory' and he gives little Michael a grape, the childs face is realy amusing as he eats it.

I was actually going to include that as well.
Roth's portrayal is so flawless! Another funny
scene is when Roth tell Michael in his Miami home:
"stupid, people behaving like that with guns", and 5 minutes later he condones the killing of Frankie Pantangeles saying "he's small potatoes",
while he casually stuffs food in his mouth.

some of my favorites

GFIII:
CONNIE:Michael…
MICHAEL:Yes?
CONNIE:Now they’ll fear you.
MICHAEL:Maybe they should fear you

right before the killing of Zasa the whole bit on the car with armand and joey's bull dog

ARMAND:Hey, Joey Zasa! Joey! Up your ass!
ARMAND:Hey Joe! Who's gonna win the car, eh? Your aunt?
ZASA:Hey. hey, why don't you get off of the fucking car, huh? You got a raffle ticket?
ARMAND:Hey Joe, take, take a good look at my raffle ticket, here we go.

GFII: when connies new boyfriend merle kisses mama corleone on the cheek the expression she makes is classic.

GFI: after tom and sonny are arguing over sonny killing tataglia and tom saying this is business not personal, and mikey starts talking about killing mccluskey and sollozzo

SONNY:You're taking this very personal. Tom, this is business and this man is taking it very very personal.

or the final time mike and sonny will see eachother at the dinner table when they are thinking of where to plant the gun

SONNY:Hey, listen, I want somebody good -- and I mean very good -- to plant that gun. I don't want
my brother coming out of that toilet with just his dick in his hands, alright?

i am sure theres more, but i dont want to bore you all

In my home! In my bedroom, where my wife sleeps! Where my children come and play with their toys. In my home.

Well adding to the scene at the table when Michael says he joined the marines....my fondest memory and special touch by Puzo and coppola came when all the members of the family wnet to greet their dad at the door and michael was just sitting there...as sonny walked over to greet dad he gives Mike ONE more big brother snipe..lol...he says..

"STUPID" and walks away..THAT was great and really showed the big brother lil brother relationship...lol

Another bit is early in GF1 when Vito ushers Johhecks that he is gone. After that he kinda sighs then it cuts to the cake. Its the sigh that gets me. Brando=The Don.

Yeah, this scene. I read this whole thread and you're the only one who mentioned it, but I like the look on Sonny's face right after Michael say's he'll shoot them: "Mr College boy!..."

for me some moments are amusing, but mst of the times, these movies are deadly serious and i dont find hardly anything funny

- The 'Exterminate' line by clemenza is great, and brutal! it does make me chuckle

- GFIII - The bloke says 'Up your Ass' to Joey Zasa

- GFIII - Im off to listen to some Tony Bennett Records

- GFIII - When Zasa attempts to join in the fun but nobody wants him

Sonny - Well then, business will have to suffer, all right? And listen, do me a favor, Tom. No more advice on how to patch things up, just help me win, please

At the wedding in GF1 when the guy throws something to Paulie--'I got two gabagoo(?) for you!' and then when paulie goes outside with Sonny. Sonny talks to the FBI guy and Paulie assumes a treatening stance that is really kind of funny and then Sonny breaks the guy's camera and throws the money on the ground and then Paulie kicks the camera and assumes another 'gangster' position revealing that he has a gun in his suit.

I know this has probably been discussed but what is a gabagoo?

"Gabagoo" is actually Capicollo, which is an Italian deli meat, like salami.
