You know I mocked the Yankees for their Vernon Wells trade, but he's actually having a pretty solid year so far. Lets see if he can keep this up.

I was glad they got Wells because he was a Yankee killer. I hope A-Hole, Tex, Granderson never come back. The NEW Yankees are doing fine.

I'm with you Oli. For the love of the game? Yeah right. Its for one thing only - money. Next they will have sensors on running backs and receivers that will synch up with sensors on the sidelines and end zone. Electronic surveillance can be endless and they will keep pushing the envelope. I can envision no umps or refs; just robots, cameras and sensors; a room full of monitors.

This argument in the name of tradition is silly. "Tradition" was also what kept black players barred from professional (white) baseball for what 60 something years?

I'm fine with replay. But you can't do replay on every single thing or else it'll be a complete unfeasible trainwreck like it was in the NFL when it was first implemented.

I say give each team a "challenge" that they can use only once per game.

I was against them getting Wells because I thought he was all washed up. However, it's still only mid-May so there's still A LOT more baseball to be played. I don't care about A-Rod coming back but I'm looking forward to Tex and Granderson.

I hope Wells is more durable than Youkilis.

So far he has been but we'll see. Hafner may go on the DL next but we just got Granderson back.

Of course most changes to their chargin I would argue have been successful. The Wildcard, the DH, and so forth.

In short, what's wrong with instant replay in baseball? Once its done, people will accept and even forget that was actually a debate once upon a time ago.

Unless of course baseball bungles it like NFL did the first time around with theirs.

I have a question. If a player is traded to the Blue Jays, do they need to get a work visa?

First of all, why would anyone trade with the Blue Jays?

If they are Americans, no they don't;also,if they are from a country that is on Canada's visa-free list.

Melky Cabrera was traded to the Blue Jays and they played the Yankees yesterday. I asked my husband the question, but he didn't know, so I was curious.

BTW, the Mets are playing the Cubs today. The weather is miserable here in NY, rainy and chilly in the low 60s. However, it looks beautiful in Chicago!

Did I hear right? Joe Torre is recommending instant replay for all calls except balls and strikes? This makes more sense than the arbitrary selection of certain plays. After all, 50,000 people at the game see the replay as well as anyone at home. Technology is forcing the change. Kind of sad to see the "national past time" actually become the past.

All of Miami was traded to the Blue Jays last winter. Not that it did any good. The Blue Jays are the Detroit Lions of baseball. Every year someonee says this is the season they will do something, but then they never do.

Exactly. That's why I asked what team would engage in a trade with the Jays. What could the Jays offer?

I'm not surprised AT ALL and actually predicted that the Blue Jays would miss the playoffs whereas all of the so called "experts" predicted them to win the division, go to the World Series, and some even said they'd WIN the World Series! SMH

If you watch college baseball, check out a Stanford game when Mark Appel is pitching. He is as good if not better than any college pitcher I've seen, including Clemens, Randy Johnson, Ben McDonald and Strasburg.

Whether Houston can pay him with the first overall pick remains to be seen. They passed on him last year because of his contract demands, but he can potentially be a multi Cy Young winner.

Mike Trout hits for the cycle. If he stays healthy, his career is going to be quite stellar....and he's from New Jersey!

Got me to thinking...I came up with two Jersey born hall of famers: Goose Goslin and Joe "Ducky" Medwick (both with bird nicknames). Jeter will be inducted some day. Are there any other Jersey born hall of famers?

Come on, I only predicted them to win the wildcard lol.

Anybody else surprised/happy that Cleveland is doing pretty good with Francona at the helm? I have always thought of him as a great manager (ala Joe Torre).

Tommy Shots: They want me running the family, don't they know I have a young wife?
Sal Vitale: (laughs) Tommy, jump in, the water's fine.

Being from Cleveland and a lifelong Indians fan, I am pleasantly surprised at how Francona has lifted this team. I was surprised that he took the job with us. But he commands respect and gets the most out of his players. Barring injuries, the Indians should be in contention with Detroit all season.

I am hoping he can break the championship curse in Cleveland like he did with the Red Sox.

I liked Terry as a manager, but since he was Red Sox manager.. panic . Is he Tito's son? When I was kid I played imaginary games with my friend. As Yankee fans we played the American League teams with players like Tito Francona, Rocky Colavito, Minnie Minoso, Luis Aparicio, Nellie Fox, Hoyt Whilhelm, Gus Triandos, Harmon Killebrew, Zolio Versailles, then their there were those hated National Leaguers; Bill Mazeroski, Warren Spahn, Eddie Matthews, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, John Roseboro, ok, that's enough

I remember the great Indians teams from the 90s, Ramirez, both Alomars, Belle, Baerga, Lofton, etc. VERY exciting to watch.
