The first few days of the season have provided some great games and pitching performances thus far.

Not surprised with the cardinals because they do know how to run a team (and saved them selves from that pujols contract). By the way, Keith Law believes that the Cubs have the 5th best farm system and John Sickels has them 10th best. I honestly love where the Cubs are heading to.

By the way, Klyd what do you think about Halladay's slow start/decline?

Not ready to panic. He had some nagging injuries last year, but the general opinion is he'll get back on track. While he didn't have great command this Spring, he has shown flashes of his devastating slider. When he regains consistency in placing his pitches, he should be back.

I just don't see enough offense coming from the Phils to keep up with the Braves and Nationals. Atlanta's lineup is fierce.

That ump really needs to get his eyes checked. At least he apologized right after and said it was supposed to be a ball. He needs to be warned though because if that was during the playoffs or world series.

Still don't understand why refs and umps never get in trouble for really bad calls.

Unfortunately I don't keep up with the minor league system as much as I should, but I know a few of our big guys there are ranked well: Carlos Correa, Jonathan Singleton, and George Springer. All the trades we've been making lately were supposed to be with the intention of building up for the future, so I guess time will tell.

My favorite news story of late was when our owner told fans to write him a check if they were going to keep complaining about the payroll. I'm actually totally for the patient approach, and it wouldn't be sensible to hold onto big-salary guys when we're not considered contenders, but his PR approach is ridiculous.

No i dont want him to get into trouble unless he is found to have money on it..But a 5-4 game with a runner on first in the 9th inning of a game i mean it cant be over turned some how..they have to get a replay system down some how.. maybe not on balls/strikes but on other close bangbang plays at first n home plate..

And a 20 minute interview/explanition of what is going wrong after the game..Roy only lost 3-4 mph not much i think he can get it bak..but he needs the controll..and to stop looking he ran a Fu$5$in marathon on the mound by the 5th inning..I mean no other pitcher looks this tired.. Roys face turns red and always looks exausted on a pitching mound by 6-7..? you guys tell me i watch espn almost every nite..No body looks that tired on no pitchers mound.. he aint playin basketball or football...

In a way I'm disappointed! I wanted to see a gauntlet in the AL East! In paper they all looked good top to bottom! Baltimore the TB! On paper. Boston a little fringy but the rest looked strong.

I don't pay close attention to standings until Memorial Day. The pennant races don't start to take meaningful shape until then for the most part. But I have to say that the statement the Braves made this weekend is the biggest story of this young season.

I watched the last few innings of their imressive comeback against the Reds. The Pirates have the finest stadium in baseball and there is always a nostalgic feel among the fans, who attend games there. I would love to see them contend.

How about those left for dead Yankees? 6-5 in the early part of the season and only 1 1/2 behind first place! The hittings starting to come around for some of these castaways and the pitching (with the except of Hughes) has looked very good - CC, Kuroda and Pettitte.

Pirate fans deserve a really good season after those years of no playoffs. If they do make it I will root for them.

No, but in the first inning St. Louis hit a homer that was fairly close. HAd a great time. I'll be hitting some other Sunday home games. Additionally, I plan to get out to Baltimore and Pittsburgh for games. I have tentative plans to be back in Boston in August, and if so, I'll likely plan a trip to Fenway.

A few years ago we discussed the then possible use of instant replay in baseball. Well, baseball blew a replay review where a hit, which replay convincingly showed should have been ruled a homer, was ruled a double after the game was halted so that the umpires could review it. The blown call prevented the A's from tying the game in the ninth.

Baseball acknowledged that the umpires were incorrect in their conclusion, but ruled that because it was a judgment call, it stands.

Normally I would agree that judgment calls, if shown to be erroneous later, should stand. However, where baseball has inserted the extreme option of instant replay to guarantee a proper outcome in certain situations, a higher standard should be employed, and the call should be reversed, allowing the game to be replayed from the point where the blown call is reversed.

I am completely opposed to its use (in football also). The game is a function of human talent and decision-making; I see no reason why umpires decisions should not be the same and that be the end of it.
