Just for the record, in Sicily a boss/capo NOT getting his bands dirty is seen as a mark of arrogance. Soldiers obviously pick up the bulk of the work, but a boss that acts too superior will have problems.

Also, many bosses in Sicily personally did dirty work, for example:

Stefano Bontate (boss of the Santa Maria di Gesu' family) killed Stefano Giaconia

FIlippo Sciara (boss of Siculiana) was one of the hitmen who killed Salvatore Ingaglio (a stidda boss)

Michele Cavataio (boss of the Acquasanta family in Palermo) was one of the hitmen who killed Piero Garofalo and Girolamo Conigliaro (murder organized by the Uditore boss Pietro Torretta).

FIlippo Marchese (boss of the Corso dei Mille family) killed many people personally

Anyway, the American bosses seem to be more reluctant than Sicilian ones to commit murders personally after they become bosses.
