Imbesi got cracked because he gave the grand jury testimony that tied Nigro to the paperwork Felix brought down from Assachusetts. Sinking the boss even in this day and age against those guys will cause problems. Long story short an FBI report that listed Bruno as a rat was brought to the Bronx, two guys besides Felix were there. Nigro and Mario looked at it,story goes Nigro said "we will let you know". This Mario Imbesi repeated the story and the Nigro response to the grand jury. His head became a cantalope shortly after Nigro got life.

I know I will catch hell for this, however there like a any good orginazation. They choose the best canidates and have the best training systems. Best answer is that it was personal, but not with the mafia. He was protected by the Genovese after he gave testimony, Nigro wanted to kill him but a few unknown capos said no and it would be better to pull his protection. After that word on the street was the Genovese family washed their hands of him, he was fair game and had backstabbed and cheated guys a mile long. It was a who is who. In a way the Genovese were responsible since they cut him loose, but he had too many enemies that it was only a matter of time before someone would get their hands on him.
