In the scene where tony meets omar for the first timw, where he commented on he would kick omar's monkey ass all over the place.

Suppose Omar was like Joe Pesci of either casino or goodfellas, what would have happened?

Was that a smart move by Tony?

It was a smart move by Tony, becasue Omar was a skank and if Tony had not shown Omar, right off the bat that he would not allow Omar to push him around, Omar would have taken advantage of Tony on everything forward.

Although that move by Tony almost cost him his life in the motel. Obviously Omar set him up because he saw that Tony was going to be trouble for him. But I still think that it was a good gamble by Tony.

Tony, when cleared of the coke garbage, was able to use his braun and guts to the top. He had a 50/50 shot with what he did with Omar, but it paid off for Tony. A very great point Cardi.

I agree it was a smart move on Montana's part, HOWEVER, had Omar had the temperment of either Pesci's Tommy or Nicky, Tony would not have made it back around to the front of the food stand to quit.

Sure, in real life, if Omar had been a big-time operator, Tony would have been dead real quick. But it was Filmic License: That scene was used to establish Tony's reckless, risk-taking nature, and Omar's basic lack of cojones. It also set us up for the scene where Omar and Tony call on Sosa. Omar follows Frank's line and wusses out, but Tony, reckless and risk-taking as ever, shows his stuff. Result: Omar dangles from the copter and Tony's the big kahuna.

It was to show you that Tony was not scared of dying because of where he came from and the life that he once lived in Cuba.

Yeah... Who else besides Tony Montana, when faced with a chainsaw-weilding crazy Columbian, would have the kahunas to say "Why don't jou try stickin' jour head up jour a**... see if it fits."

I wish I could tell my boss that sometimes....!

No chainsaw... just too much work!! (all while he's out playing golf, naturally!) Although he does slightly resemble Hector the Toad...

Tony in the shower with the chainsaw weilding lunatic is one of the all-time great movie scenes.
