She was not nominated as best director because she did not sat some where that torture was bad.
Members of the academy are being told not to vote for it as best picture because of it.

I find this movie criticized/used by both sides hilarious in the last year or so this was being filmed, in pre-production followed by release. And the irony is completely lost. First the right-wingers claimed ZDT was Hollywood pro-Obama propaganda to secure re-election, and liberals pushed back. Now the same right-wingers are defending ZDT against the liberal blow-back. Quite frankly, from what I understand of the said scenes and the way they're put into context (again not seen the movie yet), I'm not sure both sides are right in their outrage or whatever. Remember the hubbub at DJANGO UNCHAINED? Some shithead pundit (I forgot his name thankfully) who claimed that movies' message was that it was racist against white people. Spike Lee said it was racist against black people. Both I found to be pretty damn wrong when I did see it. I'll open my mouth on this topic when I have something to bitch about (or bitch against to be accurate.) The one thing I take from this ZDT controversy is unrealted and only a filmphile observation. We've had many good female directors, if mostly ghetto-ed to the arthouse/independent scene, some even nominated for the Best Director Oscar but no winners. Kathryn Bigelow broke that glass ceiling by winning that Oscar, and she's threatening to become the first powerhouse female star director. ZDT is on track to be her biggest hit ever by a large margin, its got great reviews and yeah the industry was shocked she (along w/ Affleck) were snubbed at the Oscars. So for her an icon of progressive Hollywood to get snubbed by progressives is just....fascinating, that's all I'll say. Also, welcome back IvyLeague.

I thought it was a well crafted and morally despicable movie. I disagree with the former and agree with the latter. More thoughts here (alongside assessments of Lincoln and Django Unchained).

There have been a few good directors that were women in the old days. Ida Lupino was one of them. She was also a pretty good actress very sexy as well.
She even had a tv show co starring with her actor husband Howard duff.
The liberals think nothing of changing history to suit their beliefs.
The school history books are being changed to suit tge liberal beliefs. So make sure you teach your kids not to believe everything they hear in school.
