A few months too early Skinny. Not the first time you're wrong friend, that's why we love ya.

I really want to see this movie.

Very good film. I applaud Bigelow for pulling no punches and making no apologies.

I thought it was a well crafted and morally despicable movie.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungleā€”as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

She was not nominated as best director because she did not sat some where that torture was bad.

Members of the academy are being told not to vote for it as best picture because of it.

She's said that she wanted to be faithful to the research of what actually happened and not add or delete facts based on political opinion or ideology. For that, I give her credit. She didn't bend to pressure to spoon feed facts to the audience the way certain people would want her to. And, by "people," I mean those particularly on the left (which makes up the vast majority of Hollywood), who go more by ideology than reality on this issue, and didn't like seeing intense interrogation being portrayed as possibly being useful. But even Bigelow has said herself that she doesn't agree with the tactics portrayed. So she basically sides with the rest of the left/Hollywood on that point. But, unlike so many of them, she didn't let her personal opinions slant her movie making. And that's a rare thing.

I find this movie criticized/used by both sides hilarious in the last year or so this was being filmed, in pre-production followed by release. And the irony is completely lost.

First the right-wingers claimed ZDT was Hollywood pro-Obama propaganda to secure re-election, and liberals pushed back. Now the same right-wingers are defending ZDT against the liberal blow-back.

Quite frankly, from what I understand of the said scenes and the way they're put into context (again not seen the movie yet), I'm not sure both sides are right in their outrage or whatever.

Remember the hubbub at DJANGO UNCHAINED? Some shithead pundit (I forgot his name thankfully) who claimed that movies' message was that it was racist against white people. Spike Lee said it was racist against black people. Both I found to be pretty damn wrong when I did see it. I'll open my mouth on this topic when I have something to bitch about (or bitch against to be accurate.)

The one thing I take from this ZDT controversy is unrealted and only a filmphile observation. We've had many good female directors, if mostly ghetto-ed to the arthouse/independent scene, some even nominated for the Best Director Oscar but no winners. Kathryn Bigelow broke that glass ceiling by winning that Oscar, and she's threatening to become the first powerhouse female star director. ZDT is on track to be her biggest hit ever by a large margin, its got great reviews and yeah the industry was shocked she (along w/ Affleck) were snubbed at the Oscars. So for her an icon of progressive Hollywood to get snubbed by progressives is just....fascinating, that's all I'll say.

Also, welcome back IvyLeague. smile

Well im not a fan of Jessica Chastain, but overall i enjoyed it. 9/10 for me. The assault on the bin laden compound, imo was done just right. I saw it with my buddy who is in the army and we both appreciatted the accuracy of the assault. I guess youd have to be in the military/police or around it to appreciate the difference between the proper way to breach a house, clear a room, and the hollywood/blockbuster/tom cruise way. Honestly i dont think they went overboard on the torture scenes, it was rough, yeah but it was what happened. It wasnt overboard like some tarantino movie. Id recommend it. I think it will be one of those movies that people wont forget, just due to the subject.

Great great movie, very enjoyable. In terms of the pre-bin laden raid (all the drama with the other al-qaeda members) it was very accurate. I am a big intelligence community (CIA) buff and thus I enjoyed this movie immensely. The compound raid scene was very well done.

I disagree with the former and agree with the latter.

More thoughts here (alongside assessments of Lincoln and Django Unchained).

There have been a few good directors that were women in the old days. Ida Lupino was one of them. She was also a pretty good actress very sexy as well.

She even had a tv show co starring with her actor husband Howard duff.

The liberals think nothing of changing history to suit their beliefs.

The school history books are being changed to suit tge liberal beliefs. So make sure you teach your kids not to believe everything they hear in school.
