There were three Ciancaglini brothers: John, Joe Jr., and Michael. Joe Jr. was made underboss by Stanfa to appease the Merlino faction. This didn't work out. Michael, the youngest and Joey Merlino's best friend was shot at one day when coming home from playing ball. He was certain his brother Joey was one of the shooters. Michael in turn had his brother shot which was the one caught on tape. Mikey Chang was then shot along with Joey Merlino shortly after. Michael died and Joey was shot in the ass and survived. Johnny Chang, the oldest was in jail while all this was going on. Sad story. Johnny was caught on tape saying that if he was out none of this would have ever went down. He came home shortly after Michael died.

out of all the turncoats in the john stanfa era from wat i read theres never been a acount of the attempted shooting at michael chang or of any conspiracy of stanfa and joe chang plotting against his brother mike. i cant remember any of stanfa sicilians ever saying they shoot at michael chang except for veasey who killed him. the only guy who testified in the joe chang shooting was the horse head guy who said merlino and crew made him do it i forgot who the other 3 or 4 shooters he said were there but no one got convicted. did john veasey ever talk about joe chang in his book i bet they probaly never met. and i really dont think veasey or privite were inducted into the philly mob i flat out think they lied or the feds told them to. cause if they dont burn the saint and blood or gun not on the table its not real, the gambino's made the whole devacalcante do there inductions over cause they never used the gun and knife and that was when they were at there most powerfull peak in the early 90tys before vinny ocean fliped. i dont want to hear a guy say yaeh john stanfa said im with him that makes me a made guy, no it dont. this mafia prince book by leonetti talks on the brothers chang, how it must have killed the dad who he says is probaly the most respected gangster from his era alive, and says he heard he's in good health. i know is long, any one post something up here if there was a trial transcript or arcticle.

I remember reading/hearing in interview that some Scarfo guys coming home wouldn't respect a Merlino faction in charge. How much respect does Johnny Chang carry from the old Scarfo guys to young(er) Merlino guys? Is he a better choice to lead other than a polarizing figure like Merlino? He definitely has paid his dues, lost a lot, and even rivals grow to respect guys that been thru what he has.

Actually his dad gets out in a few years and is very respected. He was a capo with scarfo and went away with the rest of them in the 80's.

Veasey was very much made, with the ceremony and everything. Fact is some NY families didnt even use the gun or the knife in their ceremonies until recently.

Is this a joke?
Did anyone see this: http://www.myfoxphilly.com/story/17545326/reputed-mobster-linked-to-lottery-stand

Satweizer gives Ciang shit for working at a newspaper stand that sells lotto tickets. Apparently Dave thinks that ex cons should just be stuck on welfare the rest of their lives and not be able to earn a legit living.

Johnny Chang has abandoned that lottery stand - he may still own it but he's nowhere to be found ... Probably because of being bothered all the time by stratweiser. now just a couple of younger guys working ...

Did they really bother him often? Stratweiser should go down to the hood in north philly and ask the blacks why they are pushing H.

I'm sure they've come into contact with him numerous times over the years. This probably has nothing to do with it but Veasey was said to be making stops at the lotto stand a while back also and taking pics in front if it.

A strange abbreviation - Ciancaglini to Chang. I initially thought Chang was a Chinese surname.

Proof that Philly is dead. Veasey can get away with that and not get clipped.

I think it's because the group in question has committed murders in the past, so they try to get them at least for something. Like Al Capone with tax evasion. Do you think they would have cared about Ligambi if he didn't beat his murder trial previously?

Thats an abuse of prosecution. Whatever is in the indictment is in the indictment. Who does more damage to society? Video poker proprietors or guys who traffic in H on the street. Its disgusting. The feds have a hard on for the Italians.

I'm reading the Leonetti book now and I jumped around a little bit.for some reason I believe everything he says.I'm shocked at the part that he was sneaking back in to his old compound in AC back in 1996 when his grandmother was sick.Word got out and there were even strange cars parked nearby with recognizable gangsters from North Jersey but nobody did nothing.Eeven Merlino knew, nobody did anything. After 1 recent visit to AC back in 2010 he actually stopped in the Saloon on the way back to his motel near the airport.Guess the point I'm trying to make is Veasey could open up a lottery stand in South Philly and you know what would happen? Nothing. Its just the way it is now.

That is good stuff would have loved to have seen Stratweiser in N Philly looking to reds rivera or savage or one of the new kingpins now...i am guessing the news truck would be found burning up and might not see ol dave in the same way he walked into the badlands

I've mentioned this before recently in a thread but that place in Georgia street in AC is nothing to write home about ... I mean I know AC is pretty awful but for the amount of money those guys had , kind of surprised.

I think it that it was just their house that they grew up in through the family and they were a close knit Italian family that didnt want to leave. Not sure on the dates of how long they lived there but does anyone know if the family and the house went back as far as prohibition in AC?
