My coworker recently received an hysterical phone call from her son. He came home from school, found his father passed out on the bathroom floor and the toilet full of blood. She told him to call 911 and raced home. Long story short, her husband didn't want to go to the hospital and went to the doctor instead. While waiting for an appointment with a specialist, his doctor wanted him to have an abdominal CT scan. His insurance turned it down, saying he had to see a specialist first. That was weeks ago. He finally had his CT scan this past Friday. He found out today that he has cancer.

Gee, our current healthcare system is GREAT. We shouldn't try to change it one iota.

God bless the USA! If he lived in Canada or Europe he would of had to wait 6 months to see the doctor. Greatest country in the world we live in with the greatest health care system as well. Too bad in a few months our health care system will be like the other countries I mentioned. Also, under Obama Care how would your friend have been better off? Also, I hope he gets better.

Our medical system works if you have the money, otherwise it it sucks, and is by no meeans the best in the world. There are all kinds of mortality and other stats that support this.

Not to say that any of the systems in Europe are any good... for the most part they are awful as well.

Bottom line.. if you have the $$ the best medical care is in Boston,Mayo, Baltimore, New York, Houston and maybe LA in no particular order...but again, you need the money and contacts in some cases.

Currently, around 40 million people or so in the US have no health insurance coverage. In certain countries with universal healthcare (Switzerland, Japan etc.) losing all your assets to obtain medical care is unheard of and would be considered scandalous. In the US, it happens all the time.

I'm still skeptical Obamacare will work, especially with lack of commitment to curb illegal immigration and lawsuits.

It just snowballs into a big shit storm. CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) are the biggest thieves. They generate a lot of revenue and profit. Yet they don't pay any taxes to the city, I believe they're a non-profit. I know a family in south phila that are selling their property, they transferred the name awhile ago out of the father's name so CHOP didn't take their home. The son is in his early 20's and has had hodgekin's disease and has had hospitalized over the years there. I tried selling the property but they wanted to much for it. I remember the guy showing me a bill for $60,000 from CHOP. They're the real south-philly loansharks.

Obamcare is a first step, but I agree it has real problems. First there should have been a single payor system like medicare,and negotiations with drug companies regarding pricing, but the lobbies killed that. There should also be tort reform on the malpractice awards, that will come.

Health care is a big incentive and a pain in the ass. A majority of our deficit is because of our inept system. We spend more on that than anything else! On top of that no one on either side of the political spectrum can agree on how to fix it! Outrageous. I agree Obamacare is a step in the right direction, BUT it is by no stretch the tell all answer.

They are saying it will cost 100 millions dollars for Obama to travel to Africa. I say screw that, stay home and put the monmey someplace where real Americans can benifit from it!

This is getting way out of hand.

I know people joked of how stupid Rick Perry was when he ran for President, but now him picking a personal fight with Wendy Davis confirms it. She's a "monster" that Perry and his state party created with their incompetence the other night, but no big deal since he's calling a special session to pass that abortion bill he wanted passed. Making a public point (or swipe, your interpretation) of how she was a teenage mother herself and proves that women don't need abortion isn't necessary...

Yeah sorry Rick but she's a state representative. You're the Governor. Who benefits more from you namechecking her? It only feeds her fame and stature from nobody to a star within the national liberal ranks. You've won the battle pal, you risk losing the war down the road.

The House Oversight Committee has waived IRS employee's 5th amendment priviledge maintaining that she lost the priviledge during her last appearance before the Committee. She will now be compelled to testify.

Over the weekend the NYT reported that GOP strategists plan to use the age issue against Hillary Clinton if she runs in '16. This reminds me so much of Democrats who truely believe Chris Christie can be stopped by focusing on his weight.

It's a strategy seemingly drawn out of subconcious desperation and visceral hatred, one that is foolish if some people truely believe this is their kryptoite.

EDIT - Speaking of Christie, I see the Democrats in NJ are planning to use Gay marriage as a wedge against him. They're nuts if they think this will keep him from being re-elected.
